Time Difference

Armenia is three hours ahead of United Kingdom GMT and they currently observe Armenia Time (AMT) all year. DST is no longer in use and clocks do not change.

Money

Cash can often be changed at banks and in exchange bureaux, but it’s important to note that British pounds may be less readily accepted outside than US dollars or euros. Although most major credit cards and UK debit cards are accepted at stores and restaurants in Yerevan, they are less so outside of the capital city. It’s also important to be mindful that some prices for goods and services can be quoted for in US dollars, but by law, payment must be made in Armenian Dram. You can obtain this from various ATMs throughout Yerevan.

Electricity

Armenia operates on a 230V supply voltage and there are two associated plug types, types C and F. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type F is the plug which has two round pins with two earth clips on the side. UK travellers will need to bring an adapter.

Shops and Amenities

Generally, merchants open from 8am until 9pm, Monday to Saturday, with some supermarkets open 24 hours.

Media

There are several daily and weekly newspapers including Armenia Liberty, Tert and Aravot which will often be in Amerenian, English and Russian. As for television, Armenia enjoys several television channels, including sports and news, and they are listed as Armenia 1 and Shoghakat TV, both of which are public channels.

Post offices are usually open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday in the capital of Yerevan but may differ in the more rural regions.

In Armenia, most areas have good Wi-Fi coverage and 3G/4G signal. Armenia also has three phone operators: VivaCell MTS, Beeline, and Ucom with good access throughout.
