The palace was built around 1624 by King Louis XIII as a hunting lodge, before being enlarged by King Louis XIV and becoming the official royal residence and French seat of government to Versailles in 1682. There are also plenty of events held throughout the year, including fireworks shows, jazz concerts and spectacular weddings.
