They say the French style is all about beauty and elegance, which is why the Palace of Versailles, the most famous chateau in France, located just 15 minutes outside of Paris via the Metro, is a must-visit. The journey there offers incredible views of the countryside along peaceful riverbanks and past fields dotted with horses. The town of Versailles itself is small but picturesque, with its winding streets and beautiful gardens - the perfect place to relax on a sunny day with a cup of coffee from one of the many cafes lining the streets. Then walk around the grounds of the Palace of Versailles
and you'll feel like you've stepped into a fairy-tale, with meticulously manicured gardens set against the backdrop of the majestic architecture. The palace was built around 1624 by King Louis XIII as a hunting lodge, before being enlarged by King Louis XIV and becoming the official royal residence and French seat of government to Versailles in 1682. There are also plenty of events held throughout the year, including fireworks shows, jazz concerts and spectacular weddings.
