Itinerary

100% customisable for you

The first leg of your London to Naples rail adventure takes you from London's St Pancras Station to Paris Gare du Nord, on the Eurostar. After a speedy two-and-a-half-hour journey under the English Channel, you’ll disembark in Paris, ready to grab a croissant and cup of coffee. It's then an easy seven-minute ride on the RER (the Parisian metro) to Gare de Lyon, where your second train awaits.

Whizzing through the beautiful French countryside, this six-hour scenic route from Paris to Turin will have you peering out of the window the whole route, as you glide alongside rivers and speed through the foothills of the French Alps.

You’ll arrive in Turin in the late evening, ready to grab some supper. Turin is home to famous brands such as Martini Rosso and Cinzano, so why not head straight out for an aperitif (or two) before heading to one of our recommended restaurants. After dinner, stroll along the River Po and then catch the Nevabus River Taxi back to view the night lights of central Turin from the water.

Today, it's time to travel down the spine of Italy, to Naples. This six-hour journey will see you sweep through the core of the country, passing large cities and tiny villages, remote vineyards and vast valleys, right down to the calm coast.

Learn about Neapolitan myths and legends, mafia stories, art history, politics and anecdotes of daily life from an insightful local, with plenty of opportunities to stop and sample freshly cooked pastries, authentic Italian street food and, of course, pizza. Weave your way down narrow alleyways and pass through inconspicuous doorways with your guide to learn more about a city recognised as one of the oldest in the world.

The rest of your day is free for you to relax or explore a little further.

Enjoy a private transfer from Naples to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Pompeii. Pompeii was famously buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash and pumice in AD 79, when Mount Vesuvius erupted. Over a thousand years later, the city was uncovered and new discoveries are still being found today. The ash preserved the city and created a remarkable snapshot of Roman life, frozen at the moment it was entombed. Experience this magnificent site and walk between the ruins at sunset, before being privately transferred back to your hotel in Naples.

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll catch the train from Naples to Sorrento, which should take just under an hour and a half.

Sorrento is a coastal town in southwestern Italy, facing the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Peninsula. Perched atop cliffs that separate the town from its busy marinas, it’s the perfect spot for snapping holiday photos – wander the warren of narrow alleys with their picturesque shops and cafes and soak in the relaxed atmosphere. A slow afternoon here is on the cards before the evening sets in.

Remember, our Italian Concierge will be on hand throughout your trip to make restaurant bookings and offer insider advice on what to see and do – especially when it comes to finding secret spots in Sorrento.

Rise and shine, today you’ll be heading over to the enchanting island of Capri. The journey is just as beautiful as the destination – soak in the sweeping vistas as you take to the waters aboard a traditional Gozzo (a wooden boat). There’ll be plenty of opportunity to swim in the Mediterranean Sea and explore Capri’s colourful grottos, so don't forget your swimmers…

Once on the island, take the chairlift to the top of Monte Solaro for breath-taking views, before descending to the famous Piazzetta for a coffee or aperitif and some world-class people watching opportunities. You’ll return to Sorrento later this afternoon.

After yesterday’s adventure-packed day, this morning you have a well-deserved lie-in. Relax at your hotel or get out to explore more of the stunning coastline.

Sorrento has something for everyone, whether you’re a beach lover seeking some sandy seclusion or a walking enthusiast wanting some time to explore. You could spend today delving deeper into the history of Sorrento. You’ll find plenty of local museums displaying vestiges of previous occupations from the Greeks and the Etruscans.

Ahead of your big travel day tomorrow, use the rest of today to pick up souvenirs, dine on some appetising cuisine and soak up the sun.

This morning, enjoy breakfast before your driver takes you back along the coast to Naples, which will take an hour-and-a-half. Once in Naples, you’ll catch your train back up the centre of Italy to the country’s fashion and commercial capital, Milan – a journey of around four and a half hours.

This afternoon a guide will take you to the famous Duomo for a tour to learn all about the history of Milan and give you a fresh insight into this intriguing and prosperous city. Your last day wouldn’t be complete without the opportunity to see the world-renowned Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece: The Last Supper. The painting represents the scene of the Last Supper of Jesus with his apostles, as it is told in the Gospel of John, 13:21 and with your skip-the-line tickets, you can appreciate the magnitude of this piece up close.

Finish up your day wandering the labyrinthine streets of Milan and tucking in to a last bite of Italian cooking.

Say ciao to Italy, as today you’re heading home. Just as you did on your outbound journey, you’ll take a seven-and-a-half-hour train to Paris and then a speedy two-and-a-half-hour journey from Paris to London. Enjoy a drink from the on-board bar, as you race through the countryside, toasting your successful rail adventure.
