Route
UK - RANE RIVER VALLEY
After a flight from the UK, you’ll arrive at Lulea airport and will be met by your driver, who will pick you up and take you through the Rane River Valley, to the edge of the woods. You will stop here and the last part of your journey will take you deep into the forest on the back of a specially-converted snowmobile. Upon arriving at Aurora Safari Camp, settle into your cosy Cone Room - your home for the next two nights, with its glass roof and north-facing panoramic windows, which give guests the best chance of spotting the Northern Lights.
This afternoon, take in the Arctic wilderness and explore your beautiful surroundings. For the active, put on a pair of snowshoes and explore the forest on foot, admiring views of the frozen Rane River. For a higher adrenaline activity, hop on a fatbike or kicksled, and whiz through the snow and ice, looking out for wildlife tracks as you speed by. Or you can spend the evening in the sauna, which is located on a float, cleverly frozen into the river’s ice. Here, you can stargaze and watch out for the Northern Lights away from any artificial lights.
RANE RIVER VALLEY
Wake up in the Arctic wilderness for an exciting Siberian Husky trip. Today, you will meet an excitable team of dogs and their owners, before spending the day whooshing through the forest and lake trails and immersing yourself into a life in the wild. Look out for local wildlife including moose, red fox, reindeer and roe deer as well as an abundance of beautiful birds. On your return, channel your inner artist with an ice sculpting lesson, using professional ice tools to carve a large block of ice from the lake, transforming it into a creation all of your own.
The open fire and sauna will keep you cosy and warm tonight as you return to your traditional sanctuary away from the freezing cold temperatures and snowfall.
TREEHOTEL
Today you will be transferred around an hour to your next stop in Lulea. Treehotel is located in the heart of the forests of Lulea and allows guests to experience the stunning surroundings from beautiful forest-fringed treehouses. Head out into the wilderness on foot with a guide, and try your hand at ice fishing. Your guide will pick a good spot and from then on, it’s all about listening to their tips and tricks, hopefully leaving you with a cool catch. Tuck into a hearty outdoor lunch, cooked on an open fire, before heading back to the hotel.
Tonight, you will be treated to the chance to (hopefully) spot the Northern Lights and their dancing green auras on an ice dining experience. Hop on the snow mobiles for a short ride to a headed tipi on the frozen lake, surrounded by torches and candles, like something out of a fairy-tale. Enjoy a delicious three-course dinner made from fresh, local ingredients, all the while keeping your eyes peeled for the lights, before heading back to the hotel. When stomachs are full and bodies are weary, head up to the Tree Sauna for a spot of relaxation after a day in the cold. We can also organize a Pine Tree Forest Walk, a guided tour of Treehotel, a full-day Hike in Korgen Nature Reserve and Zip Lining at Treehotel.
TREEHOTEL
On your final full day you’ll get the chance to throw yourself into Sami culture thanks to Anna, your guide for the day. Having been brought up in a reindeer herding family, she is an expert in all things local and will tell you all kinds of stories around the fire. She might even teach you a joik (traditional Sami song) or two. You will hear fascinating stories about the native lifestyle, gaining true insights into the Sami culture, as well as getting up close and personal with the reindeer – you might even get to feed them if you’re lucky. Stop at the Arctic Circle Monument on your way back to the hotel to remind you how far north you have journeyed.
Return to your hotel ready for your mouth-watering three-course dinner in the restaurant. Enjoy the creative simplicity of the local produce as you tuck into proper Swedish delicacies, from freshly caught wild game to the finest hand-picked berries, all prepared and cooked to perfection.
