Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Sweden – Lapland – Lulea – Harads – Jukkasjarvi – Abisko
100% customisable for you
Bags packed and out-of-offices on: your snowy sojourn in Swedish Lapland begins today. Head to the airport, breeze through security and settle into the lounge for some complimentary nibbles before departure. Flights to Lulea connect through Stockholm and take just over five hours, so sit back, kick up those footrests and crack open your holiday read.
Touchdown in Lulea, the capital of Swedish Lapland, this afternoon. Once you’ve grabbed your bags, collect your hire car and drive to your centrally located hotel. Then, check in for two nights, drop your bags and divvy up the sides of the bed.
Having taken some time to scope out your suave new digs, set your sights on dinner. If you’re not sure where to go, your trusty Concierge will be able to point you in the right (by which we mean most delicious) direction.
Fuel up on a hearty breakfast this morning before donning your thermals and venturing into the snow for your first of many Arctic adventures – a snowmobile safari through the Lulea archipelago.
While you're whizzing through the wilderness, keep your eyes peeled for a variety of local wildlife, from mighty moose to winter birds such as grouse and great grey owls. There’s also some spectacular scenery to admire, namely the unusual ice formations that rise from the coastline.
Back in your hotel this afternoon, indulge in some R&R (hot chocolate with marshmallows, anyone?) before heading out again for dinner.
Bid the lovely shores of Lulea a fond farewell this morning before hopping in your hire car and dialling up the road trip tunes for the one-hour drive to Harads, a charming village just south of the Arctic Circle.
When you arrive, check in for two nights, drop your bags and freshen up. The afternoon is yours to spend as you please, whether that means kicking back with a mulled wine by a crackling fire or bundling up in winter wear and venturing into your snowy surroundings.
Rise, shine and dine on a tasty breakfast this morning to fuel up for another day of winter wonders. On the agenda today? A husky-drawn sled ride through the wilderness.
Start by meeting a friendly local musher (a person who drives, manages and travels with a team of dogs) for an introduction to your new furry friends. Then, once everyone’s – excuse the pun – broken the ice, climb onto the sled and take the reins as you glide through the postcard-perfect heart of Lapland.
Break for a well-deserved hot drink around a campfire later on. Then, once you’ve revived your energy and the huskies have had the chance to play and stretch, journey back to your hotel to indulge in some downtime this evening.
The name of the game today: ticking off a bucket-list experience. We’re talking about spending a night in the original Ice Hotel, of course. Set in Jukkasjarvi amid pine forests and glacial lakes, this frozen palace is built anew each year by a team of artists and engineers from the waters of the mighty Torne River.
After a tasty breakfast, buckle up for the three-and-a-half-hour drive to Jukkasjarvi. When you arrive at the Ice Hotel, check in for one night, pick which side of the reindeer hide-topped bed you want to sleep on and freshen up before kicking back this afternoon.
Later, at dinnertime, slip away to the hotel’s award-winning restaurant to taste a series of delectable dishes. It doesn’t come much better than this.
Tuck into a decadent breakfast this morning before loading up the car and setting off on the one-hour-and-20-minute drive to Abisko, gateway to – no surprise here – Abisko National Park.
After checking in for the final two nights of your trip, head out for a gentle stroll around the village this afternoon. Or, if you’d rather rest your legs, cosy up and enjoy the facilities at your hotel.
This evening, you’ll dine at none other than the Aurora Sky Station, one of the best spots in the world for seeing the legendary Northern Lights. Although sightings are never guaranteed, the view from the restaurant is a showstopper in its own right. Combined with the mouth-watering meal, it’s bound to be a feast for the senses.
Wake bright and early this morning to make the most of your last full day in Swedish Lapland. Start with yet another incredible breakfast before down-jacketing-up and braving the cold for a snowshoe hike in Abisko National Park.
Stretching 46 miles along the Tornetrask (one of Sweden’s largest lakes), the park is chock-full of forests, mountains, canyons and lakes. It’s also home to the U-shaped Lapporten valley, one of the most photographed sites in the country.
Accompanied by an expert local guide, explore this lovely landscape, learning how to identify animal footprints and other traces left by the diverse wildlife inhabiting the region.
This evening, return to your hotel with rosy cheeks and saturated camera rolls. Then, celebrate your trip in style by asking your Concierge to nab you a table at the swankiest restaurant in town. Time to say skal (cheers)…
Like all great adventures, your snowy sojourn in Swedish Lapland sadly comes to an end today. Enjoy a leisurely start this morning before bundling into your hire car and setting off on the one-hour journey to Kiruna. Then, catch a one-hour-and-30-minute internal flight to Stockholm, where you’ll board your connecting flight home.
After another two hours and 30 minutes in the air, land in the UK this afternoon, ready to regale friends and family with tales of your Arctic adventure.
