Your journey begins in Forsand, with a guided hike to the famous Preikestolen viewpoint for your first unforgettable glimpse of the fjords from above. From here, take the Ryfylke Scenic Route to Jondal, the gateway to Folgefonna National Park on the shores of the Hardangerfjord. After a day exploring the village and park, follow the Hardanger highway to Aurland, ready to cruise the UNESCO-listed Naeroyfjord and hike up Mount Prest for more sweeping fjord views.

Next, travel the Aurlandsfjellet or ‘The Snow Road’, stopping in at some of Norway’s charming stave churches before a night in Skjolden. Then it’s on to Geiranger, via the Sognefjellet Scenic Route, where you can waterfall-watch from the deck of a boat and drive the dizzying Trollstigen.

After a night on the shores of Fjaerlandsfjord, your journey comes to a close in Osoyro, a coastal idyll south of Bergen. Round off your trip with one final picturesque stomp to the summit of Borgafjellet to soak up the last few views. Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your journey to Norway’s fantastic fjords begins today, so head to the airport for your flight to Stavanger, which takes around an hour and 40 minutes.

Upon arrival in Norway, pick up your hire car for the hour-long drive to Forsand, passing under the fjords via the Ryfast Tunnel. Settle in for two nights in this peaceful village near the Lysefjord, where spectacular views serve as the backdrop to your stay.

You may already be familiar with Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), which towers 1,982ft above the Lysefjord. Perched on the fjord’s south shore, this postcard-perfect mountain plateau has been named one of the world’s most spectacular viewpoints. As you’d expect, it's very popular, so we’ve arranged for a private guide to lead you up a less-travelled route to dodge the crowds.

Your journey begins by canoe on the lake, before a hike through the dense forest. Stomp up the steep mountainside, pausing every now and then to take a breather and admire the scenery, before finally reaching the prize of Preikestolen. The breathtaking views across the Lysefjord are a rich reward – take a moment to soak it all in before heading back down the same secluded trail. To admire Preikestolen from the water, you can also take an optional cruise along the Lysefjord today.

Leave the Lysefjord behind this morning as you load up the car for the long drive to your next scenic stop. It takes around five hours to reach Jondal, a pretty village on the Hardangerfjord and the gateway to the Folgefonna National Park. Drive along the Ryfylke, one of the most picturesque routes in the country that leads through a landscape of rugged mountains, lush hillside and deep fjords. Passing through the Odda region, make a pit stop to admire the twin waterfalls of Latefossen plunging into the fjord or visit Roldal stave church, known for its crucifix, which is said to have healing powers.

Once you arrive in Jondal, settle into your hotel for the next two nights, nestled among beautifully preserved wooden houses clustered on the green shore of Hardangerfjord.

Charming Jondal is one of a handful of hamlets granted the official status of national park village. It's just west of Folgefonna National Park, home to the glacier of the same name and a haven for outdoor adventurers.

While visiting the park is a must-do during your stay (with the option to hike the majestic Juklavass Glacier), don't miss soaking up the atmosphere of this small fjord-side village. Learn about the local boatbuilding industry or enjoy a pleasant walk along the waterfront, drinking in your swoon-worthy surroundings. We can also arrange for you to enjoy a soothing session in a floating sauna on the fjord (because it wouldn’t be a Nordic getaway without a spot of sauna time).

Another long drive awaits this morning – but as you already know, long drives in Norway are far from ordinary. It takes around three hours to travel from Jondal to Aurland along the Hardanger highway, considered one of the country’s most scenic routes. During your drive, the views from the car couldn’t be more captivating: think mountains, fjords, waterfalls and glaciers. With a full day to travel at your own pace, there’s ample time to pull over and savour the scenery.

Once you arrive in Aurland, settle in for two nights at your hotel in this idyllic village on the south side of the Sognefjord. Enjoy a leisurely evening before tomorrow’s adventures.

Wake up bright and early, you have a busy day of activities ahead. Set sail for a boat trip on the Naeroyfjord - a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the world’s longest and deepest fjords. Sheer cliffs rise to a towering 5,577ft above sea level, waterfalls plunge dramatically through craggy cliffs and inland, wild rivers wind their way through forests to reach glacial lakes.

After your captivating cruise, it’s time to gain some altitude with a hike up Mount Prest. Lace up your walking boots and follow the short, steep route to the Royrgrind viewpoint, which delivers photo-worthy views of Aurlandsfjord. It takes around three hours to hike the round-trip, so you’ll arrive back in Aurland later this afternoon with time to freshen up before dinner.

Another day, another scenic drive. The Aurlandsfjellet route between Aurland and Laerdal has been replaced by a time-saving tunnel in recent years. But if you’re keen to see as much of Norway’s natural beauty as possible, why not take the scenic route to Skjolde? Drive between snow-covered landscapes, roadside snowdrifts and frozen lakes, then hop on the car ferry, before returning to the fjord’s winding roads.

Sights along the way include the stave churches of Borgund and Urnes. Built from timber in the Middle Ages, these are some of the oldest preserved wooden churches of their kind. Some are simple and understated, while others boast intricate designs and complex carvings.

Upon arriving in Skjolden, unwind for the night at the foot of the majestic Jotunheimen mountains. Your hotel isn’t far from Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord.

Now it's Sognefjellet's turn to delight lovers of scenic drives as you make your way to Geiranger. Linking Sognefjord with the Gudbrandsdalen Valley, this route follows the fjord’s clear waters before winding through muscular mountains. Soon, Galdhopiggen (Norway's highest peak) and the Jostedalsbreen glacier will come into view. Tucked away in the heart of a valley, the Lom stave church is a must-see stop for those interested in Norway’s iconic wooden churches.

You’ll spend two nights in the small town of Geiranger, just steps from the fjord. After today’s drive, you deserve a relaxing evening, so tuck into a delicious dinner at a nearby restaurant.

It’s difficult to grasp the scale of the Geirangerfjord, one of Norway's most iconic fjords. The best way to appreciate its staggering beauty is from the water, so today we’ve arranged an electric boat tour. Glide between the vertiginous cliffs and admire the powerful waterfalls that tumble down them. The Syv Sostrene (Seven Sisters) and Friaren (the Suitor) waterfalls are the subject of local legend, and your guide will bring these stories to life during your voyage.

Once back ashore, hop in the car and follow the Trollstigen (Troll Road). This dramatic route promises spectacular panoramas, hairpin bends and steep gradients. For more stunning sights, take the Romsdalen cable car to the top of Nesaksla, where the summit reveals breathtaking views in just seven minutes.

This morning, set off on a four-hour drive to Fjaerland via the old east-west road. A true engineering masterpiece of the late 19th century, it remains one of the most beautiful routes in the country. Beyond the car windows, watch as snow-capped peaks, alpine pastures, tundra, mountain streams and lakes pass by.

Break up the journey with a pit stop in Loen, where you have tickets for the Skylift cable car. Ascend above the mesmerising waters of the Nordfjord, reaching the top of Mount Hoven in just a few minutes. Then stop for refreshments at the panoramic summit restaurant, which serves up views of Mount Skala, Lake Lovatnet, the Jostedalsbreen glacier and Olden village.

From here, continue to Fjaerland and settle in for the night on the shores of the Fjaerlandsfjord, one of the branches of the Sognefjord. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, or, if you’re after some outdoorsy, head out for an optional kayak excursion and soak up your new surroundings.

Wake up to more picture-perfect fjord-side scenery before packing the car for the journey to Osoyro, which will take around five hours. After crossing the Sognefjord, the Vikoyri-Voss stretch of today’s route, promises its share of wonders, from tumbling waterfalls and quaint mountain huts to sun-dappled snowdrifts.

Upon arrival in Osoyro after another awe-inspiring drive, check in for one night on the shores of the Bjornefjord. Once you’ve freshened up, there's nothing quite like a hike to the summit of Borgafjellet to stretch your legs. Starting from the village, the trail climbs gradually upwards, rewarding you at the top with a breathtaking panorama of the fjord, surrounding mountains and (on a clear day) the glacier glistening in the distance.

All good adventures must come to an end, so it’s time to begin your journey home. Today’s drive is a short one, as it only takes 20 minutes to reach Bergen Airport. Drop off your hire car, whizz through security and pick up a few last-minute souvenirs ahead of the two-hour flight back to the UK.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

CRUISE THE LYSEFJORD

Sculpted by the elements during the Ice Ages, the Lysefjord is among Norway's most sought-after spots. Images of Kjeragbolten – a rock precariously perched between two cliffs – and the Preikestolen platform have become world-famous. A guided cruise is the best way to experience the fjord, letting you admire the scenery from the boat’s deck so you don’t miss a moment of the spectacular views.

HIKE THE JUKLAVASS GLACIER

Today's playground? The Juklavass Glacier. Composed of flat ice and deep crevasses, it’s made for adventure. During this guided hike (tailored to your ability level), you’ll climb icy walls and squeeze through dramatic passages before being rewarded with a lunch break overlooking panoramic views of the North Sea and the Rosendal Alps.

PRIVATE FLOATING SAUNA SESSON

The sauna is an integral part of daily life in Nordic culture, and Norway is no exception. In Jondal and Fjaerland, you can take the sauna experience to the next level – floating right in the middle of the fjord. It’s customary to plunge into the cold water afterwards, but we’ll leave you to decide whether you fancy a freezing dip.

KAYAK ON THE FJORD

A cruise is one thing; a kayaking trip is quite another. In Fjaerland, at the helm of your own boat and free from the noise of engines, you can immerse yourself in nature and glide through the clear water. Keep an eye out for the Boyabreen and Flatbreen glaciers, admiring their ethereal beauty from the waterline.
