Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Kenya - Tanzania - The Masai Mara - Serengeti - Zanzibar - Nairobi
100% customisable for you
It’s the first day of your holiday, so wake up bright and early for your flight to Nairobi. After speeding through security and relaxing in the airport lounge, it’s time to board your eight-and-a-half-hour flight, which will fly by with the help of our specially curated African playlist (you won’t be stuck listening to?The Lion King?on repeat, don’t worry).
Once you touch down, a representative will meet you and speed you through priority access, and you’ll then be privately transferred to your hotel. It’ll be approaching late evening by the time you arrive, so grab a meal at the hotel’s restaurant before collapsing into bed, ready for your African adventure to truly begin tomorrow.
It’s your first full day in Nairobi, so we’ve left today free for you to explore at your own pace. Now the largest city in East Africa, Nairobi’s blend of buzzing streets and beautiful green spaces make it a great place to start on your tour across Kenya and Tanzania.
If you loved?Out of Africa, we’d recommend visiting the museum where author Karen Blixen lived between 1914 and 1931. The museum showcases memorabilia from Blixen's life, including original furnishings, photographs and personal belongings.
For lunch, we can secure you a table at Matbronze Cafe, where you can enjoy tasty local ingredients amid a lush green garden and bronze sculptures of wild animals.
Spend the rest of the day exploring the city – our clued-up Concierge is on-hand to give recommendations for hidden gems.
Wave goodbye to the capital, because today, you’re headed to the must-see Maasai Mara National Reserve. After your private transfer to the airport, you’ll board a small aircraft waiting to whisk you into the wilderness on a speedy one-hour flight.
The final leg of the journey will take you to your camp, an intimate spot with stunning views over the game-filled plains. The rest of the afternoon is yours for the taking, so drop your bags and settle in before heading out to explore the camp and admire the views of the Maasai Mara’s breathtaking plains.
With its wonderful wildlife, open plains and sun-soaked stretches, the Maasai Mara is an iconic safari destination. For the next two days, ease into your mornings with breakfast at your camp as you watch the sunrise over the African savannah. The plains are teeming with things to do, so your two-day itinerary can be tailored entirely to your preferences.
Embark on a full-day safari, pausing for lunch at scenic spots and keeping your eyes peeled for the ‘Big Five’ (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinoceroses). Watch for diverse bird species on the riverbanks or observe animals in the swaying grasslands. If you’d like to immerse yourself in the local culture, meet with Maasai locals to learn about indigenous plant uses. Come evening, enjoy delicious dinners under the stars – there really is nothing like it.
Your final morning in the Maasai Mara has rolled around, so bid farewell to the Big Five and get ready to travel to Tanzania. After a quick ride to the Maasai’s airstrip, you’ll be whisked to Migori on a speedy half-hour flight, before being privately transferred one-and-a-half hours to Tarime. From here, you’ll board your second two-hour flight to the Serengeti airstrip, and a final transfer will take you to your camp in the Serengeti National Park.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1981, the Serengeti National Park is perhaps most famous for playing host to the Great Migration, the annual wildebeest migration, during which millions of hooves pound the open plains from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara.
You’ll likely be knackered after all the travelling today, so settle into your tent, soak in the views and dine al fresco beneath the African skies.
Over the next two days, embark on a thrilling safari journey through the Serengeti National Park, immersing yourself in the wonders of the Tanzanian wilderness. Begin each day with an exhilarating game drive, spotting iconic wildlife like lions, elephants and giraffes roaming freely across the vast plains. If you can tear your eyes away for long enough, your guide will stop so you can enjoy a tasty bush breakfast within the serene landscape.
In the afternoons, explore on foot during guided walking safaris led by knowledgeable rangers eager to give insights into the park's ecosystem. Back at the camp, watch hippos lazily lounge in the river, before jumping into the swimming pool and enjoying your own refreshing dip.
Feast on a final savannah-side breakfast in the Serengeti, because your journey to Zanzibar begins today. After a four-hour flight, you’ll touch down in Zanzibar Airport before being transferred to the UNESCO-listed Stone Town on the western side of the island of Unguja.
Check into your hotel and drop your bags before heading out to explore the town’s bustling market, shops and restaurants. When dinner time rolls around, ask our local Concierge to secure a table at one of Stone Town’s best restaurants. Be sure to sample some traditional Zanzibarian fare, from?mishkaki?(meat skewers) to?mandazi?(sweet, deep-fried dough balls).
Today’s all about discovering Stone Town. This morning, set off on a walking tour alongside a knowledgeable local guide. As you wind through the maze of narrow streets, marvel at the town’s elegant palaces and intricate wooden doors, which blend Swahili, Indian and Omani influences and heritage. Along the way, you’ll learn about Stone Town’s complex past, including its role in the East African slave trade, as you visit landmarks like the former sultan's palace and the historic slave market.
By the end of the day, you’ll be experts in the rich history and architecture of Stone Town. Round off your day by raising a glass to your newfound knowledge – preferably at a rooftop bar, where you can catch an iconic Zanzibar sunset.
Today, it’s time to leave behind the hustle and bustle of Stone Town for Jambiani, a seriously scenic cluster of villages on the island’s east coast. After a speedy hour-and-a-half transfer, you’ll arrive at your hotel, so check in, dump your bags and admire the view over the sparkling Indian Ocean. If you’ve worked up an appetite, treat yourself to a meal at the hotel restaurant followed by a well-deserved good nights’ sleep.
After a jam-packed ten days of fast-paced safaris and buzzing towns, Jambiani is all about losing track of time. Over the next two days, set aside technology and leave behind the pressures of home life as you embrace the rhythm of a traditional fishing village.
We’ve left these days free for you to do as much or as little as you please. Still raring to go? Explore the surrounding areas on a sun-soaked bike tour or dive headfirst into the waters and snorkel among the colourful marine life. If you prefer relaxation to recreation, spend your days sunbathing on the powdery white beach or hopping from beach bar to beach bar, making the most of happy hour cocktails. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to return home with fantastic memories (and glowing tans).
It's the last day of your African adventure, so pack your bags and wave goodbye to Zanzibar’s east coast as you’re transferred to the airport. From here, you’ll catch a one-and-a-half-hour flight back to Nairobi (hello again, Kenya), where another transfer will be waiting to take you straight to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an elephant orphanage.
Set in Nairobi National Park, the only city-based national park in the world, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a home for young elephants orphaned due to poaching or other causes. Spend your final afternoon watching the elephants enjoy their milk feed and mud bath and gather for playtime, all the while learning about their rehabilitation stories.
After an inspiring visit, it’s sadly time to head to the airport to catch your evening flight home. After nine-and-a-half-hours in the air, you’ll touch down in the UK the next day, armed with a camera roll full of photos and memories to last a lifetime.
