  • Walk, relax and reset in the Atlas Mountains beneath Mount Toubkal
  • Stay in a traditional kasbah with sweeping views over mountain valleys
Morocco’s climate and landscapes lend themselves beautifully to rewarding honeymoons, and this 11-day journey pairs some of its most rewarding settings with just the right amount of movement. From the quiet drama of the Atlas Mountains to the colourful energy of Marrakech, it’s a trip well-shaped by contrast and comfort.

Begin in the Atlas Mountains, beneath the peaks near Mount Toubkal, chosen for its sense of space and stillness. Wander walking trails, relax in streaming hammams and let the landscapes do the talking. From here, head to Marrakech for plenty of time to explore (both solo and guided) the renowned medinas and palaces of the bustling Red City. Your honeymoon ends in the charming town of Oualidia, where a sheltered lagoon, stretching beaches and rich seafood set an unhurried tone to wind down to.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your holiday begins with a short flight to Marrakech (there are several indirect options, but direct flights from London only take a quick three and a half hours). On arrival, you’ll be met by your driver and taken straight into the hills on a one hour journey into the Atlas Mountains.

The scenery shifts quickly, with red rock slopes making way for lush groves of walnut trees and snow-dusted peaks. Arrive at your charming mountain hotel in perfect time to settle in and soak up the views – a peaceful and dramatic welcome to Morocco.

With the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains towering above you, you’ll no doubt be itching to get out exploring and today is an invitation to do exactly that.

Spend the day trekking with an experienced guide through walnut groves and past Berber goatherds, taking in the incredible views through wide valleys dotted with tiny rural communities. For the more adventurous couples, why not opt to camp out in a traditional village for the night? Otherwise, return to the comfort of your hotel after a day on the trails. Either way, you’ll be accompanied by a donkey carrying a picnic and cushions, so you can enjoy lunch with a view en route.

After a full day of trekking yesterday, it’s time for some well-earned relaxation. The next two days of your honeymoon are deliberately unstructured and unhurried, giving you time to slow right down.

Dip in and out of the pool, settle into a shady spot with a mug of mint tea and enjoy the ever-changing valley views. There’s plenty of time to make the most of the traditional spa too, so that you leave feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated.

Say goodbye to the mountains this morning as you make the hour-long drive to the lively streets of Marrakech.

On arrival, settle into your riad – an elegant townhouse arranged around a central courtyard – before deciding how you’d like to spend the evening. You might fancy a fragrant dinner on the roof terrace, watching the colourful medinas bustle from above, or get stuck into the action with a wander through the maze of alleyways for a taste of the city’s energy. For recommendations, our detailed destination Dossier includes plenty of well-chosen places.

This morning is devoted to shopping and treasure-hunting in the souqs (packing light always has its advantages). Set out to explore the medina’s dense network of winding streets, where colour, scent and sound compete for attention. Take your time exploring the medley of stalls – from spices and ceramics to rugs and small handcrafted pieces – and enjoy the gentle back-and-forth of haggling as part of the experience.

In the afternoon, meet your guide for a deeper look into Marrakech’s history and architecture. Highlights include the Koutoubia Mosque, whose minaret remains the city’s most recognisable landmark, as well as the 19th-century Bahia Palace, the Yves St Laurent Museum and the Lezama Synagogue.

Spend this morning learning the art of Moroccan cooking at one of Marrakech’s most respected cooking schools, working alongside an expert chef to master balancing spices and serving up a tagine like a local. Once prepared, tuck in and enjoy the seasoned fruits of your labour – it’s the ideal fuel for one last leisurely afternoon in the Red City (and one final haggle for those souvenirs you’re still wishing you picked up yesterday).

Today, you’ll be driven west along the Atlantic Coast, on a journey of around three hours to the laidback lagoon town of Oualidia.

Once settled into the luxurious La Sultana Hotel, the rest of the day is yours to spend as you like. Take a gentle stroll along the harbour to admire drifting fishing boats and vast ocean views before dinner for a calm coastal welcome.

Today is yours to explore Oualidia at a leisurely pace, so savour your newfound honeymoon rhythm and let the quaint charm of the town seduce you: stretch out on your terrace, linger by the pool, and enjoy the shifting light across the lagoon.

If you’re feeling more active, the sheltered waters are perfect for surfing, windsurfing and kayaking. By the time evening rolls around, you’ll have worked up a perfectly reasonable appetite for a tasty dinner.

Make the most of your final day in Oualidia with more time on the water and a gentle boat trip around the lagoon, complete with spectacular views. The area is renowned for its peach-hued flamingos and oyster beds, so make sure you sample some of the latter local delicacy at lunch afterwards.

As the afternoon draws in and when you’ve eaten your fill of oysters, retreat to the spa for a relaxing massage or a steaming session in the traditional hammam: a fitting finale to end your honeymoon.

Sadly it’s time to make the journey back home today. Take a three-and-a-half-hour transfer back to Marrakech Airport and board your flight, landing back on home turf less than four hours later.

British soil may feel a little cooler – and a touch less dramatic – than the Moroccan mountains, but you’ll be well-fed, well-rested, and with a honeymoon that’s memorable in all the right ways.
