Practical advice and inspiration to help you prepare for your holiday
We would always recommend joining an expert guide for an activity or two while in Tokyo and some of our favourites include a samurai sword lesson, sumo wrestling class and manga drawing workshop. Families will also be pleasantly surprised at the range of things to do, including visiting Tokyo's take on Legoland, learning karate from the masters, and making Hello Kitty themed bento boxes.
More traditional sightseeing spots are Sensoji, which is the city's most famous temple and a world away from the skyscrapers and bright lights found in other parts of the city, and Tsukiji fish market, where you can watch the locals in their element during the early morning tuna auction. Visiting the viewing platform of the Tokyo Skytree, which reaches an impressive 2,050ft and is the tallest tower in the world, is also highly recommended.
