Barbados family holidays cater to all ages, from toddlers to teens, with a wealth of activities and two contrasting coastlines that are perfect for exploring with the brood. Here are some of our top experiences for a family getaway to this small but mighty Caribbean island…
Try a Flying Fish Sandwich
No family holiday to Barbados would be complete without tasting the freshest flying fish sandwich, perfect for quelling rumbling stomach and hangry children. The popular Barbadian flying fish is a small, thin and delicious aquatic delicacy that’s found throughout eateries in Bridgetown.
A Trip to Farley Hill National Park
The former planter-owned mansion of Farley Hill lies in ruin after being destroyed in a ferocious fire. Now a national park, tucked away among mahogany tree-lined walkways, you can opt to head towards the hilltop in search of breath-taking views over the rugged Atlantic coast. It’s perfect for strolls, picnicking and even the occasional concert. This idyllic spot certainly has something for all the family.
Visit the Barbados Wildlife Reserve
Just across the road from the Farley Hill National Park lies the Barbados Wildlife Reserve in St. Peter’s Parish. This is a must for all animal lovers, as you’ll be in great company, alongside green monkeys, macaws and flocks of pink flamingos. There’re also iguanas, endangered turtles, parrots, peacocks and more and the day can be spent exploring the four acres worth of land. This is a reserve where the animals roam freely in their natural habitat and enjoy a 2pm late lunch (a great time to spot them).
