Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Vietnam - Hanoi - Mai Chau - Hoi An - Quy Nhon
100% customisable for you
Your Vietnam adventure starts today. Head to the airport, speed through security and settle in for your overnight flight to Hanoi, which takes around 21 hours (including a quick layover). When you land the next morning, you’ll be privately transferred to your hotel, which blends old-fashioned charm with a contemporary style.
?After a few hours of settling in (and perhaps a post-flight snooze), take a wander around the neighbourhood. You’re close to Hanoi Opera House and the bustling Old Quarter, a maze-like district with centuries-old lanes, hidden temples and pagodas, bustling cafés and street food stalls.
When you’re ready for a rest from the buzzing city streets, head to Hoan Kiem Lake (or the ‘Lake of the Restored Sword’) – a peaceful oasis with a number of picture-worthy landmarks, including the scarlet Cau The Huc bridge and Ngoc Son Temple.
Come evening, enjoy your first taste of Vietnamese cuisine at a local restaurant recommended by your clued-up Concierge.
If you’re wondering what daily life in Hanoi is like, you’re in for a treat. Spend this morning with a friendly local, who’ll fill you in on the inside track and offer up some tips and tricks for navigating this bustling city.
Start the day with an al fresco tai chi session, then refuel with a steaming bowl of pho (a fragrant broth served with rice noodles and sliced beef or chicken) for breakfast. Later, head to the lively market to gather ingredients for a cooking lesson with a chef.
After tasting your creations, the rest of the day is yours to explore the city. The Temple of Literature is well worth a visit – founded in 1070, it’s dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Confucius and was also the site of Vietnam’s first university, Quoc Tu Giam. If that’s not quite enough spirituality for you, head to the One Pillar Pagoda, a historic Buddhist temple designed to resemble a lotus blossom.
Today, you’re swapping the hustle and bustle of Hanoi for Mai Chau, a small town in an idyllic valley. After a tasty breakfast, you’ll be privately transferred to your next hotel – the drive takes around three hours, so there’s plenty of time to watch the serene landscape unfold.
When you arrive, check in for three nights and feast your eyes on the patchwork of rice paddies, cloud-peaked soaring mountains, lush emerald forests and traditional houses built on stilts.
The rest of the day is yours to enjoy some peaceful quality time, but if you’re after some extra romance, we can also arrange a candlelit dinner at the foot of a postcard-perfect waterfall. Does it get any more dreamy than this?
After waking to the sound of birdsong, set off on a scenic hike in the company of a local guide. Wander along the riverbank and up the towering mountains for panoramic views over the villages of Panh and Cun Pheo, which sit pretty against a backdrop of sprawling greenery.
Once you’ve been suitably wowed, amble through rice paddies and corn fields to the tiny farming village of Co Cham, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet locals and get a glimpse into their daily lives.
Back at the hotel, enjoy a refuelling lunch and a quiet afternoon – you’ve earned it after all that walking.
After a leisurely morning at the hotel, buckle up for a thrilling 4x4 ride to explore the surrounding area. With a friendly driver-guide, wind along off-road trails and through stunning landscapes, stopping at sparkling waterfalls and hidden villages to chat with more welcoming locals.
Later, make the most of your final day relaxing on your private terrace or indulging in a couple’s massage at the spa.
It’s onwards to Hoi An today, where you’ll be spending the next two nights. After breakfast, you’ll be privately transferred to Hanoi to catch a one-hour-and-20-minute flight to Da Nang. When you arrive, a private driver will be waiting to whisk you to your hotel, about 50 minutes away.
The rest of the day is yours for exploring. From the 16th to 19th centuries, this town’s bustling port was an important hub for international merchants trading silk, ceramics, spices and tea. Hoi An’s UNESCO-listed Old Town is a remnant of this fascinating past – step back in time as you wander along its narrow lanes, passing bespoke tailors, yellow shop fronts with colourful silk lanterns and French colonial villas built for wealthy merchants.
This evening, contact your trusty Concierge for a restaurant recommendation – they’ll fill you in on Hoi An’s hidden gems.
Fancy yourself a rum connoisseur? After lining your stomach with a tasty breakfast, head out with a private guide to a local rum distillery to learn all about the process of producing this iconic spirit. Along the way, you’ll be filled in on everything from the sugar cane harvesting and aging process to fermentation and distillation, before stopping for a tasting of the distillery’s very own bottles.
Spend your final afternoon in Hoi An however you like. If you’re still raring to go, visit some of the city’s ancient Chinese assembly halls, such as Phuc Kien and Quang Trieu, or head to the postcard-perfect Japanese Bridge.
Keen for a bit of souvenir shopping? Hoi An’s silk trade history means it’s a hotspot for made-to-measure clothing, so visit a local tailor for some beautiful and perfectly tailored pieces.
Throw on your best outfit, because today, you’re taking a luxury train journey to Quy Nhon, a crowd-free coastal city complete with palm-fringed golden beaches and crystal-clear waters. The glamorous journey takes about six hours, so sit back and relax in your private cabin and soak in the vistas of lush plains, emerald forests and a sparkling coastline. As you chug along, a delicious three-course lunch will be served, and you can even enjoy a soothing massage on board.
The luxury doesn’t stop there. When you arrive, you’ll be transferred to an elegant villa, your base for your final three nights. Spend your days relaxing with spa and wellness treatments, hitting the beach for watersports and feasting on expertly prepared local dishes – the perfect way to celebrate the end of your trip.
Sadly, it’s your last morning in Vietnam. After tucking into breakfast and enjoying one last stroll along the tranquil beach, wave goodbye to Quy Nhon as you’re privately transferred to the airport for the one-hour-and-40-minute flight to Hanoi.
After stretching your legs and grabbing some snacks, it’s time to catch your connecting flight home. With a quick stopover, the flight will take between 16 and 19 hours, arriving on home turf the next day.
