Tulamben is next on the list, a haven for divers and snorkellers along the coast of Bali. Visit the bucket-list-topping archipelago of Komodo National Park and see real-life dragons (one for fantasy-loving youngsters) and a pink sand beach (calling all Barbie fans). Round off your ultimate family holiday with seafood feasts and surfing in Jimbaran Bay, back in Bali.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Begin your family adventure by speeding through security and relaxing in the airport lounge (thanks to our Original Services) before boarding your 13-hour flight to Singapore. Since your flight is on the lengthier side, we’ll equip the children with our destination-specific Sharky & George fun packs to keep youngsters entertained with interactive Indonesian-themed maps and games. You’ll arrive in Singapore early the next morning before boarding your three-hour onward flight to the island of Lombok. Renowned for its palm-lined beaches and rich coral reefs, there’s no shortage of activities here to keep little ones busy – both on land and beneath the waves.

When you arrive in Lombok, you’ll be met by your driver and privately transferred one-and-a-half hours to your hotel on the island’s west coast. Spend the rest of today settling into your luxurious villa, set among tropical gardens and overlooking the shimmering waters of the Lombok Straits. With your own private swimming pool, there’s no doubt that water babies will want to dive straight in. For parents, the villa complex’s spa offers rejuvenating and relaxing treatments.

Since Indonesia is six hours ahead of the UK, you might feel the effects of jet lag this morning, but fear not because this morning’s activities will make your wake-up worth it. A knowledgeable local guide will lead you and your crew on a snorkelling tour around the idyllic Gili Islands. Located along Lombok’s northwest coast, the trio of white sand islands are blessed with crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs and a whole host of resident marine life (keep your eyes peeled for sea turtles and tropical fish). On Gili Meno, see baby turtles and learn about conservation efforts to protect them before enjoying a beachfront lunch on the neighbouring island of Gili Air. Spend the rest of today as you please; napping in the sunshine en famille, engaging in sandcastle-building contests or simply splashing about in the aquamarine ocean.

It should come as no surprise that Lombok’s expansive beaches are beloved by surfers. Explore the island’s bustling capital, Kuta, this morning before heading to Selong Belanak beach – often listed among the most beautiful beaches in the world – for a two-hour surfing lesson. Your instructor will tailor the lesson to suit every age and ability so budding wave riders can get their first taste of catching some swells.

Surfing is an appetite-inducing pastime, so you’ll want to quieten rumbling tummies with a loaded plate of nasi goreng or stir-fried noodles come lunchtime. Once energy levels have been replenished, lead your youngsters off the beaten track in search of hidden beaches and the picturesque lookout above Tanjung Aan beach. Enjoy more delicious Indonesian specialities for dinner this evening – our local Concierge can recommend restaurants that cater for even the fussiest of eaters.

Calling all aspiring marine biologists; get ready for more ocean-based education today. The Hiu Project was established to raise awareness around the impact of shark fishing and help transition fishermen into more sustainable careers to preserve the region’s marine life. Today, you’ll embark on a marine adventure aboard traditional boats off the southern coast of Lombok. Along the way, you’ll learn all about the Hiu Project’s work from the local fishermen themselves and encounter plenty of diverse flora and fauna. Hopefully the experience might tempt teens and tweens to become impassioned marine conservationists.

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Lombok this morning. Meet your private driver, who will transfer you to the airport, just half an hour away. Board your quick 50-minute flight to Bali, where another private transfer will whisk you to your hotel in Tulamben. More treasures await in this dinky fishing village, nestled on the northeast coast of Bali. Settle into your oceanfront villa this afternoon and acquaint yourself with the hotel amenities, which include yoga lessons, diving courses, spa treatments and a stellar swimming pool – guaranteed to be the children’s favourite feature.

Venture beneath the waves of Tulamben Bay during a private diving lesson, tailored to the family’s experience level and ages. With PADI’s Bubblemaker course, children as young as eight can enjoy their first dive experience. Join sea turtles, sharks, squids, octopuses, starfish and manta rays in their underwater realm, and if your little ones are too young to dive, they can still set eyes on this rich marine ecosystem while snorkelling in the shallows.

If you’re a family of thrill-seekers, you’ll love what’s included in your itinerary for today. Strap on life jackets, grab a paddle and set off down the rapids of the Telaga Waja River on an exhilarating white-water rafting adventure. The route features both calmer stretches, perfect for soaking in the lush surroundings, and thrilling rapids that will raise your heart rate. After testing your family’s teamwork skills and successfully navigating the river’s twists and turns, enjoy a well-deserved picnic lunch on the riverbank. Spend the rest of the day as you wish; we recommend taking full advantage of this relaxation time after the hair-raising escapades of this morning.

After an action-packed few days in Tulamben, it’s onto your next stop – Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park. Travel by private transfer to Denpasar Airport, where you’ll catch a quick one-hour flight to Komodo. Your accommodation here is extra special; located off the coast of Labuan Bajo, on the tiny island of Seraya Kecil, the beachfront resort is both stylish and eco-friendly. During your stay here, you can take part in group diving sessions around Flores Island – one of Indonesia’s stand-out scuba spots.

Family holidays aren’t complete without a few bucket-list big hitters, and Komodo National Park is just the ticket. Nestled in the heart of the Indonesian archipelago, between Sumbawa and Flores, it’s home to legendary Komodo dragons, as well as buffalo, deer, monkeys and colourful red crabs. And during a guided tour of Komodo Island, led by a knowledgeable ranger, you’ll catch glimpses of the giant, eponymous lizards. Next, set sail for Padar Island and hike to a famous viewpoint – the perfect setting for some stunning family photographs – before heading to the famed Pink Beach, so-called for the tiny coral fragments that tint the sand pink.

Today it’s time to tick off the last destination on your Indonesia family adventure – Jimbaran, back in Bali. A transfer will take you to Komodo Airport, where you’ll board an hour-and-a-half flight to Denpasar. On arrival, another private transfer will be waiting to scoop you up and deliver you to your next hotel, located slap bang in the middle of Jimbaran Bay. This region of Bali is blessed with caster sugar beaches, emerald waters and traditional eateries serving fresh seafood. Again, your villa here has a private swimming pool, so youngsters can splash about to their heart’s content.

It’s the last full day of your summer holiday, so gather your crew for one last hurrah – a surfing lesson in Jimbaran Bay. Whether you mastered the waves during your previous lesson or are still in need of some assistance, an instructor will be on hand to guide you through the swells. This evening, toast to your unforgettable family holiday (with fruity mocktails for the little ones) and share your favourite memories over one final Indonesian feast.

Your ultimate Indonesian holiday comes to a close today. Check that you’ve packed everything (and then check again for good measure) before being privately transferred to Denpasar Airport. Board your three-hour flight to Singapore, layover for an hour or so and then catch your final flight back to the UK, landing early the next morning. Hopefully, the excitement of the last fortnight will have the whole family dozing off for the 13-hour flight. Summer might be almost over, but your happy family memories of Indonesia will live on long into autumn. And on the journey home from the airport, try to count up how many watersports and other aquatic activities you managed to tick off as a family.
