Guided tours through Rome and Florence allow youngsters to get a taste of their history in a fun and informative way, while days at leisure can be spent taking a horse-drawn carriage ride through old Florence, visiting Rome’s eerie catacombs or picnicking in the shade of pines in Villa Borghese. Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

FLIGHT TO FLORENCE

Your eight-day Italian adventure begins with a flight to Florence, which takes just over two hours. When you land, you’ll be privately transferred to your accommodation for three nights in the Oltrarno neighbourhood. This is one of the most pleasant districts in Florence, and your characterful apartment will provide a comfortable base for the whole family.

DAYS 2 & 3

ENJOY FLORENCE

On your first full day in Italy, you’ll take a private tour of the city’s historic centre. This is the ideal way to introduce little ones to Florence’s rich artistic and cultural landscape in a fun way. Involving just the right amount of history, the route takes you to the exterior of the historic centre’s main monuments and ends with a visit to an artisanal ice cream shop, where a master ice cream maker will reveal some of their manufacturing secrets. Of course, you’ll also get to sample some of their delicious creations. You’ll have the rest of your time in Florence to enjoy it at your own pace, whether roaming the secret passages of Palazzo Vecchio or marvelling at Michelangelo’s David. If you like, we can arrange for a private tour of the Pitti Palace and the beautiful Boboli Gardens. For dinner, don’t forget to try some of the city’s famous bistecca alla Fiorentina. If you need help choosing a restaurant, just ask our Concierge.

DAY 4

TRAIN FROM FLORENCE TO ROME

Today, you’ll head to the station and board the train for a super scenic journey to Rome. The trip takes just over an hour and a half, and during this time you’ll get to enjoy views of the rolling hills and medieval towns of the Tuscan countryside before arriving in Italy’s exciting capital. From the station, you’ll be privately transferred to your accommodation for the next four nights, a relaxed family hotel in the Vatican district. When you’re not busy exploring, take advantage of the hotel’s many places for the whole family to unwind, from the green courtyard and roof terrace to the outdoor swimming pool and spa. Enjoy dinner tonight in the hotel restaurant which serves delicious Italian dishes.

DAY 5

ROMAN TREASURE HUNT

It’s time to discover Rome this morning – with a twist. You and your little ones will embark on a safari-style treasure hunt through the city as you go in search of animals hidden in Rome’s various historic sites and monuments. A booklet of riddles and a private guide will accompany you as you discover Piazza Navona, the churches of Bernini, Borromini and Sant'Agnese, the magnificent Pantheon, Piazza della Minerva and some of the city’s beautiful fountains. This fun and informative tour is designed to captivate even the youngest of travellers.

DAYS 6 & 7

ROAMING AROUND ROME

The next two days are free for you to enjoy this eternal city. Despite being the former capital of an empire, Rome remains an accessible size, dotted with parks, shady gardens and squares scattered with joyful fountains. Among some of the best things to see during the final two days of your trip are the iconic Trevi Fountain (best experienced at night), the Colosseum and its gladiators, the Roman Forum, the Sistene Chapel, the Capitoline Hill and Vatican City. As the birthplace of the Roman Empire, Palatine Hill is rich in ancient remains and perfect for a morning or afternoon of exploring. If you need any help deciding what to do (or where to eat) while you’re here, just ask our local Concierge who can give you expert advice on how to make the most of your time here. We can also arrange a visit to the school of gladiators, where younger travellers can be trained in gladiator fighting.

DAY 8

FLIGHT HOME

Today you’ll say goodbye to Italy and be privately transferred to the airport for your flight home.

FLORENCE - THE PITTI PALACE FOR CHILDREN

Discover the Baroque Pitti Palace on a private tour designed with children in mind. You’ll walk through the royal apartments following the story of the life of Marie de’ Médici, Cosimo II and the Grand Prince Ferdinand. During this visit, little ones will get a glimpse of the life of patricians in one of Florence’s most beautiful palaces. You’ll then head to the Boboli Gardens to discover one of the most significant and beautiful examples of an Italian garden.

ROME – FIGHT LIKE A GLADIATOR

Located on the Appian Way, one of ancient Rome’s most important roads, the school of gladiators gives your children the opportunity to learn the basics of bare-handed combat and swordplay in a safe way. They’ll put on the traditional tunic, belt and protective gloves and you’ll cheer on the brave fighters from a viewing platform.
