First, the big hitters: Greece, Italy and France. Think watching the sun set over the edge of the caldera of Santorini, enjoying the delights of Italian cuisine in the hilltop town of Positano or wandering through the picturesque villages of Provence - these destinations are popular for a reason.

But aside from theses timeless classics, there's also Portugal's Douro Valley, perfect for a spot of wine tasting and the chance to explore the pretty city of Porto. Or how about sticking to the mainland of Greece instead and exploring the Peloponnese, home to some of the most luxurious and romantic hotels in Greece, such as the Kinsterna or the Amanzoe?

To stretch your time together out as long as possible before your return to the real world, why not design your trip to include multiple countries, such as venturing across Europe on the Orient Express? Begin in the city of love, Paris, and end up in Italy's floating city of Venice, and then, if that's not enough, hop aboard a boat to the Greek Islands to end your honeymoon in style. Not a bad way to kick off married life.
