Vibrant, quirky and beautiful, Hungary’s capital is a treasure trove of neoclassical architecture, eccentric ruin bars and world-famous thermal baths. Split in half by the Danube River, you’ll find Buda on the western bank and Pest on the eastern side. Buda is the city’s hilly and historic district, known for its panoramic vistas, leafy parks and relaxed atmosphere. Playing host to many of the capital’s most famous landmarks, Budapest holidays can be spent visiting Fisherman’s Bastion, Trinity Square and Matthias Church. Tour the majestic palace complex of Buda Castle, home to the Hungarian National Gallery and Budapest History Museum,
and soak up the scenic views of the surrounding city. Pest, on the other hand, is entirely flat and jam-packed with trendy bars, restaurants and cafes. More architectural masterpieces can be found here along the banks of the Danube, including the iconic neo-Gothic Hungarian National Parliament, a true symbol of the city. The renowned neo-Baroque Széchenyi Baths are also situated on this side of the river, in Budapest’s City Park. Spend afternoons during Budapest holidays relaxing in the natural hot springs and saunas, before hitting the quirky ruin bars of District VII come nightfall.
