Live Like a Local in: Marrakech

You might think you've been there, done that and got the metaphorical (and sometimes literal) Moroccan rug, but hidden among the souqs and labyrinthine side streets of Marrakech, there are always more secret spots waiting to be discovered...

Wine & Dine at Le 68 Bar a Vin

In the heart of the hip Gueliz neighbourhood, Le 68 Bar a Vin is Marrakech's first and best wine bar. Choose a bottle from the vast displays which adorn the walls and then order from the tapas menu before you settle down for a cosy night in this charismatic bar. With affordable prices, charming staff and an atmosphere that feels straight out of the prohibition period, you'll likely end up sampling more than one bottle.

Relax at the Yogiinme Yoga Studio

Peace and quiet can be hard to come by in bustling Marrakech, but at the Yogiinme Yoga Studio that's exactly what you'll find. Funky, fresh and the perfect place to get in some post-souq zen, the studio is also handily located right in the centre of town. Continuing the zen theme, go for lunch after your class at the lovely Gaia restaurant and café, which serves contemporary organic, vegetarian food that makes a refreshing change from the usual Moroccan or French cuisine.

Cook at La Maison Arabe

Under the careful watch of a traditional Moroccan dada (chef), join a small group to rustle up a delicious two course feast of Moroccan delights at La Maison Arabe's dedicated cookery school. During the half day class you'll start by picking fresh herbs in the organic gardens, before the dada shows you how to make Moroccan flat bread in the traditional wood-fired oven. Then, it's time to get down to business and make your own traditional Moroccan dishes. Finish the morning by enjoying the fruits of your labour with a delicious group lunch.

Shop at ATIKA and Moroccans La Boutique

We often recommend visitors to Marrakech leave plenty of space in their suitcases for all of the goodies they will inevitably want to purchase in the souqs. But as well as stocking up on the traditional rugs, scarves and lanterns, we suggest paying a visit to some of the boutique shops in the city. At ATIKA you'll find top quality leather products for a fraction of the price you'd pay in the UK, and Moroccans La Boutique is another hidden gem selling locally produced, organic argan oil cosmetics and beautiful clothing from independent designers.

With so much going on, there's always new local gems to discover in Marrakech and so it's always best to get in touch to find out more...
