Clare, Mclaren Vale & Barossa Valley holiday ideas
A few suggestions to get the holiday planning process started
Less well known but no less lovely, the Mclaren Vale region has recently upped its game with a wave of new winery openings. One prime example is the fantastic D'Arenberg Cube – which pares an iconic contemporary structure and interactive guest experience with a family legacy of winemaking. Just 40 minutes south of Adelaide, this really is one not to miss.
Last but by no means least on our tour of South Australian wineries is Clare, the birthplace of Australian riesling and home to over 40 wineries, some of which date back to the 1850s. Clare is a historic wine region with a legacy to match. Mix things up a little here and swap the usual wine tours for a cycling adventure as you travel from winery to winery along the Riesling or Rattler Trails. If you're looking for non-wine related activities, the giant Mintaro Maze or the 50,000 year old giant wombat fossil at the Red Banks Conservation Park are also great options.
