Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Slovenia – Bled – Triglav – Adriatic – Ljubljana
100% customisable for you
Your Slovenia adventure begins today. Pack your suitcases, head to the airport and relax in the lounge before your two-hour-and-20-minute flight to Ljubljana, the country’s capital.
When you land, collect your hire car and drive an hour to Triglav National Park, where you’ll stay for two nights in a traditional Slovenian country house located between Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. Unpack your bags, freshen up and spend the afternoon relaxing in your new digs. Come evening, tuck into a delicious farm-to-table feast at your hotel’s restaurant before heading up to bed for some shut-eye ready for the first full day of your trip tomorrow.
After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, hop in the car and drive to Lake Bled for a cruise aboard a traditional boat. As you cross the lake, soak in views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks and admire Bled Castle, a Medieval castle built on a precipice above the lake. You’ll sail past the 15th-century Church of the Assumption, set on an island on the water and where, according to legend, ringing the church bell makes your wishes come true.
For adventure seekers, we can also arrange for you to enjoy a tandem paragliding flight from Mount Vogel – considered the country’s most beautiful take-off location.
Pack your bags this morning and drive two hours to Bovec, a mountain town in the unspoiled Soca Valley. Considered the adventure capital of Slovenia, there’s plenty of outdoorsy adventures to enjoy here from skiing in winter to mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and rafting in spring and summer.
Check into your next hotel, a contemporary chalet which will be your base for the next two nights. After lunch in a local restaurant (our Concierge can recommend the best spots in town) stretch your legs with a laid-back hike then head back to your hotel to enjoy some R&R ready for more exploring tomorrow.
On the agenda for today is a private hike in the Soca Valley. Lace up your walking shoes and set out on a pretty trail that takes you through the peaceful woodlands of the Trenta Valley and past the Soca River, an 86-mile-long waterway that flows through western Slovenia and northeastern Italy.
Standout sights on the route include the Mlinarica Gorge, a 300ft-deep canyon, and the 17th-century Church of Our Lady of Loreto. You’ll cross a series of footbridges and suspension bridges en route to the picturesque village of Krsovec, on the edge of the park, where you’ll join another trail that ends in Bovec.
Bundle back into your trusty hire car and drive one hour and 20 minutes to Dobrovo, in the Goriska Brda wine region. With its rolling green hills and vineyards punctuated by picturesque villages, it’s no wonder the region is nicknamed the ‘Tuscany of Slovenia’.
Check in for two nights in a hotel housed in a tastefully restored building and make yourself at home. We’ve left the afternoon free for you to spend as you please. Head to the pool for a dip, find a spot to sit in the inner courtyard to read a few chapters of your book and as evening falls, enjoy a delicious dinner and a nightcap at the bar, which serves wines from the region.
Swap four wheels for two today as you set out to explore the Goriska Brda region by e-bike. The hilly landscapes are crisscrossed by cycling trails that take you past Medieval villages and rolling vineyards, with stops along the way at award-winning wineries and farm-to-table restaurants.
For the true wine lovers, we can also arrange a private wine tasting in a cellar, where you’ll be introduced to some of the region’s finest wines made from indigenous grape varieties such as Rebula, Malvasia and Refosk.
Enjoy a slow start this morning (you may need it after the wine tasting yesterday) then hop in your hire car and drive one-and-a-half hours to the coastal town of Piran.
Your base for the next two nights is a historic hotel in the old town with sweeping sea views. After unpacking, head out to stroll the winding car-free streets which are lined with beautiful old buildings. Our Concierge is on hand if you’re on the lookout for a lunch spot and can also recommend the top sites to tick off.
As the day draws to a close, head to your hotel’s roof terrace to watch the sun set then maybe indulge in a massage at the spa – you’re on holiday after all.
After breakfast at your hotel, drive 20 minutes to the Secovlje Salt Pans, which have been around since the Middle Ages and are now part of the Secovlje Salina Nature Park. Your destination, set among the shimmering pools, is a unique open-air thalassotherapy spa. Take your pick of treatments, from salt-pan mud wraps to brine baths and sea salt scrubs – all using natural ingredients produced on site – and enjoy a dip in the seawater swimming pool.
If you’re not too dozy after your spa trip, we can also arrange for you to cruise along the Slovenian coast by speedboat.
Today you’ll be road tripping back to Ljubljana, but with some scenic stop offs to break up the journey. First up is Postojna Cave, a one-and-a-half-hour drive away. This karst network, located halfway between Istria and Ljubljana, is one of the country’s most impressive natural wonders. A small electric train takes you to the heart of the cave, where you can walk through chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites accompanied by a geology guide.
Continuing on a similar theme, drive to the nearby Predjama Castle, the largest cave castle in the world, built within a cave mouth and dating back to the 13th century.
From there, it’s a one-hour drive to Ljubljana, where you’ll return your hire car and check in to the final hotel of your trip.
Sadly, today is the final day of your trip, but before you head home, we’ve arranged for you to enjoy a private tour of Slovenia’s capital. Accompanied by an experienced guide, explore Ljubljana on foot and uncover the stories behind its elegant architecture and bustling squares. With its position between the Balkans and Central Europe, the city has been shaped by centuries of different rulers, each leaving a lasting imprint.
You’ll also learn about the work of local architect, Joze Plecnik, whose distinctive designs, such as the famous Triple Bridge, have earned him international acclaim.
Return to your hotel to collect your bags and meet your private driver, who will drop you off to the airport in good time for your two-hour-and-20-minute flight home.
