Itinerary Highlights

  • See New York City and its sights on two wheels, starting in Central Park
  • Get a bird’s-eye view on an exhilarating helicopter ride over the Empire State and Chrysler buildings, all the way down to Ellis and Liberty islands
  • Treat yourself to slices of culture at MOMA and the legendary Yankee Stadium
  • Swing by Katz’s Delicatessen for legendary pastrami sandwiches
So good they named it twice, at least according to Gerard Kenny; New York is a city of spellbinding contrasts and iconic landmarks. On this six-day itinerary, you’ll see all the best bits.

Starting at the city’s epicentre, Central Park, hop on two wheels to see the sights like a local, swinging by the hip Tribeca neighbourhood en route to the High Line, where views come by the bucketful. The next few days are about seeing the city’s big hitters from every imaginable angle. Head up to Summit One Vanderbilt observatory, fly over Manhattan and its neighbouring boroughs in a helicopter and zoom along the Hudson River on a speedboat.

By night, you’ll hit some of the city’s most revered restaurants, watch the Yankees score home runs and enjoy the best seats in the house at a hit Broadway show. There’s plenty of time to soak up the quieter culture too, such as wandering around some of the city’s iconic museums including the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and The Met.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

This morning, head to the airport to catch your eight-hour flight from the UK to New York. We’ll whisk you through security, so you’ll be relaxing in the airport lounge in no time. Thanks to the time difference (New York is five hours behind the UK) you’ll arrive at your Lower East Side hotel in time for a late lunch.

Once you’ve settled in, spend the rest of the afternoon acquainting yourself with the local sights. Think Essex Market (the city’s hundred-year-old public market) and Pier 35, which we recommend heading to for sunset, when Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges are bathed in a golden hour glow.

Take your first literal bite out of the Big Apple at breakfast this morning. Head to a local diner (our Concierge will point you in the right direction) for your first taste of American-style pancakes before beginning your two-wheel tour of the city.

By bike, you’ll speed past sights such as Central Park and Times Square, head across Herald Square (the setting of the famous Thanksgiving parade) and continue along the High Line – an elevated, tree-lined walkway. Reward your hard work with a pause at Battery Park, known for its views across the Hudson to the Statue of Liberty, and a smoothie at a nearby juice bar.

Spend the rest of the day discovering Manhattan’s southern tip, which encompasses the One World Trade Center, the 9/11 Memorial Museum and Tribeca, a trendy neighbourhood famous for its cobblestone streets, boho boutiques and hipster restaurants.

Now that you're hopefully fully adjusted to New York time, why not start the day with a leisurely run or stroll through East River Park? Reward your efforts with a bagel from Russ & Daughters, a family-owned bakery serving up smoked salmon and pastrami sandwiches since 1914. Then it’s time for your first adventure of the day: a speedboat tour of the Bay Area. Cruise along the East and Hudson Rivers, passing under famous bridges and past infamous piers (here’s looking at you, Pier 59) to Liberty Island.

After lunch, it’s to the air for a bird's eye view of the city on a helicopter ride. Soar above the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings and spot landmarks like Ellis Island and Central Park.

Come nightfall, it’s all about New York’s other spectacle: food. Head to celebrity favourites Via Carota and Carbone or find local haunts in Chinatown. We hear Hwa Yuan Sezhuan’s Peking Duck is out of this world…

Get set for even more aerial perspectives: today it’s a trip up Summit One Vanderbilt. Set atop the tallest commercial skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan (1,401ft), this sky-high observatory offers 360° views of the city with glass ledges, exterior glass-floor elevators and immersive art installations. Make sure to stay for lunch at the elevated restaurant and bar, Après, crafted by renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer.

After an afternoon shopping on Fifth Avenue or walking the walk across Brooklyn Bridge to DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass), it’s onto Broadway, or just off-Broadway, for a play or musical of your choice.

Your last full day in this concrete jungle is dedicated to the city’s culture, starting at MOMA (the Museum of Modern Art). A ‘Who’s Who’ of artistic heavyweights – from Van Gogh to Pollock and Picasso – it boasts more than 200,000 works of art. Even if you wouldn’t call yourself an art aficionado, the collection is sure to impress.

Sports fans are in for a treat this evening. Depending on the season, we can snag you seats at the legendary Yankee Stadium to watch them score home runs against the Boston Red Sox. Or sit courtside at Madison Square Garden for an exhilarating Knicks basketball game. The purchase of lagers and a couple of hot dogs is highly recommended…

Thanks to a well-timed night flight, you have one more day to tick off any last-minute landmarks on your bucket list. Maybe it’s the iconic Friends building in Greenwich Village, a pastrami sandwich from Katz’s Delicatessen or the illustrious Campbell’s Bar, a speakeasy tucked in the southwest corner of Grand Central Terminal.

Head back to JFK airport in the late afternoon, ready to catch your evening flight home. You’ll find yourself back in Blighty early the following morning.
