Italy’s Capital of Style A Long Weekend in Milan

Milan

Starting from between £705 to £1130 per person for 4 days depending on the season of travel, advance booking time and the accommodation and activities chosen

Itinerary Highlights

  • Climb to the Duomo’s rooftop terrace for stunning views of the city
  • Visit Teatro alla Scala, one of Italy’s most famous opera houses
  • Marvel at Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, The Last Supper
Milan has always attracted a fashion-forward crowd, drawn to its art, music, architecture, cuisine, world-class museums and, of course, its style – this is the home of many of the world’s top luxury fashion brands, after all. On this four-day trip, explore the city at your own pace and enjoy private tours of the city’s must-see destinations.

Begin your first day settling into your new surroundings. Wander the historic canal district, browse galleries, stop for espresso or window shop along Via Monte Napoleone. In the evening, enjoy aperitivo drinks before trying classic Milanese dishes for dinner. Think anguilla coi borlotti (eel with beans), ossobuco (veal shanks braised with vegetables, white wine and broth) or cotoletta alla Milanese (veal cutlet coated in breadcrumbs).

The following days are for city exploring, marvelling at iconic sights and enjoying private tours of the Duomo, the magnificent Gothic cathedral at the heart of the city, and Teatro alla Scala, one of Italy’s most famous opera houses. Art buffs won’t want to miss Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper at the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, or masterpieces by Caravaggio and Raphael at the Pinacoteca di Brera Gallery.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your four-day trip to Milan, Italy’s capital of style, begins today. Head to the airport, whizz through security and relax in the lounge in preparation for your two-hour flight from the UK.

On arrival, a private driver will be waiting to transfer you to your centrally-located hotel. After dropping off your bags and freshening up, the day is yours to spend as you please. Kick back and relax at your hotel, explore the city’s maze of streets or ask our clued-up Concierge for their recommendations of must-see exhibitions, cafés and restaurants. Enjoy your first taste of Milanese cuisine at dinner this evening, before rolling back to your hotel for a nightcap.

Wake up bright and early this morning for a three-hour guided walking tour of the city. The first stop is the city’s most important (and impressive) landmark, the Duomo, one of the tallest and largest cathedrals in the world. Don’t forget to look up at La Madonnina, a gilded copper statue perched on its highest spire, before heading to the rooftop terrace for breathtaking views.

From the magnificent Duomo, a short walk takes you to the 19th-century Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a beautiful shopping arcade with a glass domed roof. This passage leads to the Teatro alla Scala, one of Italy's most prestigious opera houses. Despite its modest exterior, an opulent red and gold auditorium awaits inside – a fitting backdrop for world-class performers, musicians and international artists.

Post-walking tour, the rest of the day is yours to play with. Whether culture, cuisine or shopping is on the cards, there’s no shortage of things to see in this stylish city.

With fantastic shopping, lively neighbourhoods and delightful dining spots, there’s plenty to do in Milan. Today is yours to explore at your own pace, but we can also arrange a variety of tickets and activities. One option is ‘skip the line’ tickets to see Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper (ca.1495-98), one of the most famous paintings in the world, at its dedicated museum.

A friendly English-speaking guide can also give you a two-and-a-half-hour tour of the city from a local’s perspective. He delights in showing visitors its hidden gems, often just a stone's throw from the bustling centre.

As for fashion lovers, how about a personal shopper to take you on a shopping spree, ranging from boutiques to luxury brand stores? And then there’s the innovative Fondazione Prada. Opened in May 2015, the former gin distillery now houses a permanent collection of contemporary art and exhibitions, as well as a cinema and library.

Sadly, it’s time to say ciao to Italy. After one last Milanese breakfast featuring pastries and espressos, take a private transfer to the airport. The flight is a speedy two hours long – just enough time to kick back and relax before touchdown, dreaming about your next Italian adventure.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

AN EVENING AT TEATRO ALLA SCALA

Spend an evening at this world-famous opera house which was commissioned by Maria Theresa of Austria in 1776. This beautiful building is famed for its connections to musical heavyweights such as Verdi, Toscanini and Callas, but is equally important as a centre for ballet and dance. Over the years, it has hosted spectacular operatic premieres including Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, and Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Montag aus Licht. Also known as La Scala, it’s brimming with continental culture and historic gravitas. We’ll arrange for you watch a spectacular performance or even attend a gala evening
