Fancy disappearing somewhere dreamy with your favourite person? Few destinations rival the romance of Mauritius. On this nine-day escape, discover the two sides of the island, from the beachy bliss of the north to the wild southwest – with plenty of activities and just-us time on the agenda.

A little zen here, a splash of adventure there – Anse la Raie serves up both on the first leg of this trip. Find your flow with an early morning yoga session, then rent bicycles and roll down to the nearby botanical garden or beach. The fishing village of Cap Malheureux is also nearby, where Mauritius’ stellar seafood reputation is yours to put to the taste test.

Next, don your seafaring caps for a cruise around Mauritius’ northern islets. And if your other half is a water baby, they’ll be in their element, as these crystal-clear seas are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

The next chapter of your trip takes place in Chamarel, in the south of Mauritius. Spend a day pedalling around the fishing village of Le Morne, before polishing off a sunset aperitif as golden hour works its magic (prime time for a loved-up selfie or two).

You’ll have some time to explore the island as you please, with plenty of pampering waiting back at the hotel. Think homecooked local fare followed by an aromatherapy massage – full bellies, relaxed muscles and two very happy travellers.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

After lots of daydreaming and counting down the sleeps, your romantic getaway to Mauritius starts today. Head to the airport, breeze through security and settle into the lounge for a celebratory tipple before boarding.

It’s a 16-hour overnight flight to Mauritius, with a quick stop in Dubai along the way, so snuggle up in your seats and try to catch some sleep.

When you arrive the next morning, you’ll be whisked away by private transfer to Anse la Raie, on Mauritius’ dreamy north coast. Here, check in to your oceanfront villa – your home for the next five nights.

Drop your bags and make a beeline for the beach; where you can whizz across the water on a windsurf or paddle out by kayak, before claiming a prime patch of sand to dry off beneath the Mauritian sunshine.

And for dinner tonight? Feast on some bol renverse (a hearty bowl of rice and vegetables), best washed down with something suitably tropical.

Stretch, breathe and welcome the day with an early morning yoga session for two as dawn breaks over the Indian Ocean. Find your flow and perfect your downward dog…

Inner zen officially found, tuck into a traditional breakfast on the balcony. Today, the world (and by that, we mean the island) is your oyster, so perhaps rent some bicycles and pedal over to the Pamplemousse Botanical Garden, where exotic blooms flourish and giant tortoises roam.

Then head to one of the beaches in Grand Baie, where you’ll dive, quite literally, into another side of Mauritius. Mask, flippers and snorkels on, take the plunge to discover kaleidoscopic coral reefs teeming with marine life.

All that ocean explorin’ is bound to work up a mighty appetite, so venture into the fishing village of Cap Malheureux. Here, follow the delicious aromas into a local restaurant and sink your teeth into some fresh lobster, best served sizzling off the griddle.

Lather on the sunscreen and pack the camera – you have a day of ocean adventures ahead. At the port, climb aboard your private boat and settle into a sunny spot on deck as your skipper charts an epic course around Mauritius’ northern islets.

Drop anchor at the island of Coin de Mire, where hidden coves and castaway-worthy beaches await. Back on board, cool off with a jump into the azure waters, showing off your finest diving techniques (graceful swan dive or full-on cannonball, no judgement here).

Then, as you cruise onwards to your next speck of paradise in the archipelago, keep your eyes peeled (and fingers crossed) for surf-loving dolphins, often spotted parading through these waters. And when you drift into the bays of Flat Island, dive beneath the waves for some snorkelling thrills among shimmering shoals of tropical fish.

Back in Anse la Raie, return to your hotel for a heavenly out-in-the-sun-all-day nap, before heading out for another seafood supper this evening.

Rise and shine – today is all yours to embrace that laid-back island way of life, however you please.

While away the hours swinging in a shaded hammock, making a dent in your holiday reads and taking the occasional dip in the pool when the Mauritian sunshine calls for a cool-down. Tough work, we know...

Perhaps take your R&R to new heights with a couples massage at the hotel spa? Settle in side by side and let expert hands work their magic, easing out any lingering knots until you’re both suitably pampered.

Keep those good vibes going (and bypass any dinner deliberations) with a restaurant recommendation from our local Concierge, who’ll know just the spot for a romantic candlelit dinner by the sea.

This morning, you’ll be privately driven one-and-a-half-hours to Chamarel, located on Mauritius’ southwest coast. Here, check in to your charming guesthouse – your peaceful retreat for the next three nights.

The best way to explore your new surroundings? By bike, of course. Hop on two wheels and pedal towards Le Morne, perhaps making a pit stop at one of the roadside fruit stalls for a tropical pick-me-up. A freshly blended mango smoothie should do just the trick.

When you arrive, amble hand in hand along the shore, admiring the turquoise lagoon as fishermen haul in the day’s catch. There’s also a healthy smattering of local restaurants in the area... smoky fish skewers, anyone? And when you’re ready to return, a 4x4 will whisk you back to the hotel (phew).

The delights of the day aren’t over yet. At the rooftop bar, polish off an aperitif and enjoy a front-row view of the sunset casting everything in a golden glow. Cheers to that.

The last two days of your love-laced trip are all yours to enjoy.

Feeling adventurous? Apply a generous spritz of mozzie spray and follow one of the forested nature trails to discover secret waterfalls. Or visit the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, to admire its deity-embellished Hindu temple and watch as worshippers adorn the grounds with offerings of fruit and flowers.

There’s more oohing and aahing to be had at the Seven Coloured Earths, where ancient volcanic activity has left behind a surreal swirl of rainbow-hued sands. Afterwards, swing by the nearby Rhumerie de Chamarel to see sugarcane transformed into fiery rum. If there’s one souvenir worth squeezing into your suitcase, it might just be a bottle of the estate’s finest...

Sightseeing aside, there’s plenty of indulgence pencilled in too. Tuck into a lunch of locally grown goodness at the hotel restaurant, before surrendering to an aromatherapy massage at the spa.

Time flies when you’re having fun and, sadly, your romantic escape to Mauritius has come to an end.

Enjoy one last island breakfast, bask in those final rays of vitamin D and then, however reluctantly, prise yourselves off the sunloungers for your one-hour private transfer back to the airport.

When you arrive, have a mooch around duty-free (and perhaps pick up a last-minute souvenir) before boarding your flight back home, with a quick stop in Dubai along the way.

You’ll spend around 16 hours in the air; plenty of time to flick through your photos and relive the highlights. And if you can already feel the post-holiday blues creeping in, nothing lifts the spirits quite like pitching your next trip idea to your other half...

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

A GUIDED HIKE TO THE TAMARIN FALLS

For a little adventure between romantic candlelit dinners and sunset strolls, how does chasing waterfalls sound? Lace up your best walking boots and meet your local guide for a hike to Tamarin Falls, also known as the Seven Cascades. And (as you may have guessed) there’s more than one waterfall to discover here. Follow the trail through the rainforest, ducking beneath tangled vines and weaving past banana palms, with each viewpoint revealing a new angle of the tumbling waterfalls and swirling mist. Then cool off with a swim in one the many natural pools – the perfect reward after all that puffing and panting.
