Ease into Africa in Johannesburg with a restorative stop at Satyagraha House, Gandhi’s former home, where a vegetarian lunch and a couple’s massage help shake off the flight. Then it’s straight into the wilds of Botswana, flying by light aircraft into the Okavango Delta. Here, the days unfold to the rhythm of guided safaris, mokoro (traditional canoe) rides and lazy afternoons by the pool, while evenings bring crackling fires, candlelit dinners and the chance to sleep beneath the stars.

Back in South Africa, swap elephants for espresso in Cape Town, discovering the city with a local and picnicking in secret beauty spots. Wrap things up among the vineyards of the Winelands, raising a glass to a journey that blends adventure, indulgence and just the right amount of magic.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your southern Africa adventure begins with an 11-and-a-half hour overnight flight to Johannesburg. Settle into your seat, enjoy dinner onboard and watch the lights fade as you head south across continents. It’s the perfect time to start switching off, perhaps with a film or a glass of wine, knowing that warm African air and wide-open landscapes await.

Arrive the following morning, rested and ready to begin.

You’ll be met on arrival and fast-tracked through formalities before taking a private transfer to Satyagraha House, the former home of Gandhi, now a peaceful guesthouse in the city's Orchards districts.

After check in, ease into Africa with a nourishing vegetarian lunch followed by a 90-minute couples massage designed to melt away jet lag. Rooms are simple and filled with light, some overlooking the small on-site museum that tells Gandhi’s South African story.

This evening, you’re welcomed to a communal table d'hote dinner, where inventive plant-based dishes are paired with carefully chosen tea instead of wine. If you’d prefer to eat out, ask your local Concierge for their favourite dinner recommendations.

This morning, you’ll be transferred back to Johannesburg airport for your 90-minute flight to Maun, Botswana’s gateway to the Okavango Delta. Then, hop aboard a small taxi plane for a short low-altitude flight over winding waterways and emerald islands, often skimming past giraffes and elephant herds.

You land in the Khwai Reserve and settle into an intimate canvas camp inspired by classic 1950s safaris, with just four tents and a shared lounge. Spend the warm afternoon by the pool or on your private veranda while wildlife rests nearby.

As evening falls, enjoy dinner by lantern light, surrounded by the sounds of the bush. Tomorrow, your safari adventure begins.

Wake early and head out during the cool hours, when wildlife is at its most active. Khwai sits on the edge of the Moremi Reserve and is co-managed by the local BaBukakhwe community, making this a place where conservation and culture go hand in hand.

Your camp offers both land and water safaris, so over the next two days you’ll explore by 4x4, on foot or by gliding quietly through reed-lined channels in a traditional mokoro canoe. Keep your camera close by as you get up close to elephants, giraffes, buffalo and, if luck is on your side, leopards.

Back at camp, afternoons are for slow lunches, swims in the pool and watching animals wander past your veranda. Evenings bring fireside drinks, star-filled skies and candlelit dinners that feel wonderfully removed from the outside world.

Today, a plane-taxi carries you deeper into Botswana, touching down beside a permanent lagoon in a private concession of the Okavango Delta. Wooden bridges connect five stilted bungalows shaded by trees, with a pool overlooking the water and wildlife never far away.

After lunch, settle into your new surroundings before heading out on your first safari in this remarkable ecosystem. The delta’s maze of channels, islands and floodplains attract an extraordinary variety of animals and birds, so that every drive feels different.

As evening falls, enjoy a candlelit soak in an outdoor copper bathtub before asking camp staff to wheel your four-poster bed onto the veranda. Fall asleep beneath mosquito nets and stars, accompanied by the distant calls of the bush.

Today is devoted entirely to exploring the delta. Early morning and sunset safaris reveal this UNESCO-listed wilderness at its most magical, whether you’re tracking game by 4x4 or drifting silently along waterways in a traditional canoe.

Being based in a private concession means you can also head out after dark, searching for nocturnal creatures and elusive leopards under a vast African sky. Between adventures, relax by the lagoon, listen to birdsong or simply soak up the stillness.

If you’d like to experience something extra special, we can also arrange a visit with the camp’s semi-domestic elephants, offering a rare chance to get close to these gentle giants.

Say goodbye to Botswana this morning as your plane-taxi returns you to Maun, before connecting onwards to Cape Town. After around two-and-a-half hours in the air, you’ll have traded floodplains and elephants for ocean views and mountain backdrops.

On arrival, a local representative will help you collect your luggage and rental car, then it’s a short drive to your guesthouse. This beautifully restored 19th-century farmhouse feels more like a stylish home than a hotel, with a garden perfect for sundowners and shelves stacked with books and vinyl. A stone's throw away is the lively and creative Kloof Street district, where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafés, art galleries and museums to explore.

Settle in, stretch your legs with a stroll around the neighbourhood or grab dinner nearby – Cape Town’s food scene is calling.

With Table Mountain towering overhead and the Atlantic Ocean stretching out beyond, Cape Town has a habit of stealing hearts. Over the next two days, explore at your own pace, mixing coastal drives, city wanderings and lazy lunch stops.

One day, join a local expat guide for a walking tour that reveals Cape Town through a resident’s eyes. You’ll also enjoy a romantic gourmet picnic in a carefully chosen spot, complete with fresh salads, cheeses, fruit and sparkling wine. The location will stay a secret until the day before, which only adds to the fun.

Use your free time to visit the Cape of Good Hope, stroll Camps Bay or ride the cable car up Table Mountain if the weather plays along.

This morning, drive for around an hour into South Africa’s celebrated Winelands. These vineyards, established by the Dutch at the end of the 17th-century, combine typical Dutch architecture and noble European grape varieties: we’re talking Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Your base tonight is a historic farmstead surrounded by gardens and vines. Spend the afternoon tasting local wines, swimming with mountain views or indulging in a spa treatment before dinner.

The kitchen focuses on seasonal produce, seafood and game, best enjoyed on the veranda or beside the fire with a glass of local wine in hand.

Dinner and a guided tasting at Vergelegen Estate can be arranged if you’d like to make the most of your final night in wine country.

Enjoy a relaxed morning among the vineyards before driving back to Cape Town airport later in the day. Your room is available right up until departure, so there’s time for one last swim, stroll or glass of wine. Return your rental car at the airport, check in for your overnight flight and settle in for the 11-and-a-half hour journey home, arriving the following morning.
