The rise of indigenous tourism is arguably the most positive travel trend in years. According to the World Bank, ‘indigenous peoples own, occupy, or use a quarter of the world’s surface area’, ‘safeguard 80 percent of the world’s remaining biodiversity’, and ‘hold vital ancestral knowledge and expertise on how to adapt, mitigate, and reduce climate and disaster risks’. If ever there was a well-timed and much-needed innovation, the focus on indigenous tourism is it.
