Kick off your Kenyan adventure with a brief stopover in Nairobi (don’t worry, you’ll be coming back for a longer visit later in the trip). Hop on a plane bound for Masai Mara the following day, check into your luxury camp where you’ll spend the next three nights and get stuck into the activities on offer.
The following two days are all about game drives, wildlife spotting, fishing and hiking before moving on to Laikipia. This area has even more opportunities to spot lions, elephants and zebras, so keep your eyes peeled and cameras ready. Your adventure ends in Nairobi with a heartwarming visit to the Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Centre.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

Fly to Nairobi

Your family adventure into the real-life setting of The Lion King begins with a flight to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. You’ll be leaving the UK in the morning, so drag the youngsters out of bed and keep them entertained throughout the eight-and-a-half-hour flight with our tailored safari fun packs. After landing in the evening (Nairobi time), speed through passport control and customs and check into your hotel, conveniently located near the airport. After a long travel day, we’re sure both children and adults won’t need much convincing to fall straight asleep.

DAY 2

Arrival in the Masai Mara

Leave the capital behind because today, the gang is off to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Roll out of bed and hop onto the quick flight to Masai Mara Airport, where a private transfer will be waiting to whisk you away to your boutique camp. Tucked away on the Naretoi estate and set on the banks of Mara River, it’s a superb spot to immerse yourself in nature and game viewing. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, whether enjoying a guided walk around the surrounding lands, playing games in the garden or watching the sunset over the savannah.

DAY 3

Game drives in the Masai Mara

Dive into two days of unforgettable safari experiences in the Masai Mara, guided by the enthusiastic team at your camp. Kick off the day with a hearty breakfast served alongside panoramic views of the wilderness, before jumping into an open-sided safari vehicle and embarking on a game drive (ten points to whoever spots Simba first). Fear not over hungry stomachs, because you’ll stop off for a picnic lunch along the way. In the afternoon, unwind by the lodge’s riverbanks, where lazy hippos lounge and sun-kissed crocodiles lazily soak up the sun. As evening approaches, dine beneath the stars and share stories around the campfire, eagerly awaiting tomorrow’s adventure.

DAY 4

School visits, fishing and hiking

On your second day in the Masai Mara, explore the activities the camp offers beyond safaris: visit a local school where you can donate any unwanted pens and pencils (we all have more than enough); go fishing in the Mara River, where you can catch, take a photo with and release a fish back into the water; or visit the Mara Training Centre and learn about the inspiring conservation work underway. Some seriously scenic walks are on offer for the more energetic, such as a hike to the top of Kileleoni Hill.

DAY 5

Onwards to Laikipia

Today’s a travel day, so wave goodbye to your lodge in the Masai Mara and transfer to the airport. After landing in Nairobi, you’ll catch your second short flight of the day to Laikipia, where you’ll be met and transferred to your wonderful family-friendly camp in the heart of the Kenyan bush. Dump your bags, slip into swimsuits and head straight for the infinity pool, where you can spend the afternoon splashing around against the backdrop of Laikipia.

DAY 6

Safari in Laikipia

Days spent at your camp promise unforgettable experiences within Laikipia’s natural beauty. An early morning game drive is one of the best ways to view the wildlife, so rally the troops as the sun rises and jump into a 4x4. Keep an eye out for elephants, giraffes and big cats as your informative guide answers all your burning questions. Back at the camp, indulge in a leisurely lunch followed by a dip in the infinity pool to cool off from the midday heat. In the afternoon, embark on a walk with traditional Samburu guides, whose knowledge of local flora, fauna, culture and history is unmatched.

DAY 7

Mountain biking

During your second day in Laikipia, hop on a mountain bike and take on some of the trails through diverse landscapes, from open grasslands to dense forests. Guided by experienced local guides, riders of all levels will enjoy panoramic views of Mount Kenya and encounter native wildlife along the way. Refreshment breaks at scenic viewpoints add to the adventure, making it an unforgettable experience in the African wilderness. In the evening, relax on the outdoor decking, dine beneath the stars and reminisce over your last two days in Laikipia.

DAY 8

Fly to Nairobi

Bid farewell to your new-found safari friends, because today you’re heading back to the city. Transfer to the airport before boarding your short flight to Nairobi, where you’ll be met and transferred to your luxurious retreat just outside the centre. Dump your bags, freshen up and head out to explore Nairobi’s exceptional cuisine – your local Concierge will be able to book seats for the whole family in one of our favourite restaurants.

DAY 9

Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Centre

Today, you’re off to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an elephant orphanage in Nairobi National Park. This is the only city-based national park in the world, where wide-open grass plains are set against a backdrop of skyscrapers. Founded by Daphne Sheldrick, the orphanage provides a nurturing haven for young elephants orphaned by poaching or other natural causes, offering them a second chance at life. You’ll be able to watch elephants enjoy their milk feed and mud bath, gather for playtime and learn about their stories and personalities.

After gushing over the elephants, we’ve secured you a visit to the Giraffe Centre in Lang’Ata to meet Africa’s tallest mammal up close. This centre plays a pivotal role in conserving the critically endangered Rothschild giraffe, having successfully doubled the number of giraffes in Kenya. From a raised platform (giraffe height), you’ll get to feed the giraffes by hand and watch as warthogs scavenge for fallen pellets at their feet. After your giraffe encounter, explore the adjacent Gogo River Sanctuary on a one-mile self-guided forest walk, offering stunning views of Nairobi and the Ngong Hills.

DAY 10

Catch evening flight home

Your final morning in Kenya has sadly rolled around, so head out for a last family breakfast in the city. Your flight isn’t until the evening, so you’ll have the morning to explore before being privately transferred to the airport. With ten days of adventure behind you, we’re sure the whole family will have no problem snoozing as you soar back to the UK.

DAY 11

Land in the UK

Your plane will touch down in the UK on the 11th and final day of your holiday. With the little ones sleepy from an eight-and-a-half-hour flight, hurry home, collapse into bed and dream of your time in Kenya.
