One trip, two incredible destinations. On this Icelandic getaway, experience five days of true R&R as you soak up the incredible landscapes of the Golden Circle and enjoy restorative spa treatments at the famous Blue Lagoon.

Begin in Selfoss, the gateway to the Golden Circle and a convenient base for Iceland’s most iconic natural sites. Thingvellir National Park lies nearby, where tectonic plates drift apart across a vast rift valley and sparkling blue waters lap at jagged cliffs. Further along the loop, Gullfoss thunders into a deep canyon, while the Strokkur geyser erupts at regular intervals in an awe-inspiring display of geothermal force.

Continue west to Grindavik, a quiet coastal town on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Here, the focus is the breathtaking Blue Lagoon, where milky-blue geothermal waters contrast sharply with the surrounding volcanic rock, creating one of the country’s most recognisable landscapes.

The journey balances exploration with stillness, moving from raw natural drama to restorative thermal waters – and allowing you to reset at your own pace.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Rise and shine: your Icelandic getaway begins today. Head to the airport, speed through security and enjoy a celebratory drink before boarding your three-hour flight to Reykjavik.

When you arrive at Keflavik Airport, collect your rental car and set out on a two-hour drive east to Selfoss, the gateway to Iceland’s Golden Circle. The route moves quickly from coastal lava fields into open countryside, offering an incredible introduction to Iceland’s volcanic landscapes.

Check in for two nights at a luxurious hotel in the Selfoss area, set on the beautiful banks of the Olfusa River and well-placed for exploring the Golden Circle and the surrounding south coast. The emphasis here is on space and simplicity, so we’ve left the rest of the day free for you to unwind after the journey and ease into the rhythm of Iceland’s wide-open scenery.

Today, head into the Golden Circle to visit Thingvellir National Park, a striking rift valley where the landscape is visibly pulled apart by shifting tectonic plates. Walk through Almannagja Gorge and across open plains leading towards Lake Thingvallavatn, the country’s largest natural lake, shaped by ancient lava flows and glacial melt.

Afterwards, continue to the geothermal area of Haukadalur, a one-hour drive from Thingvellir, where the active Strokkur Geyser erupts every few minutes in a sudden burst of boiling water and steam. From here, travel on to Gullfoss, a powerful two-tiered waterfall that pours into a rugged canyon carved by glacial rivers.

The wider region also offers a series of optional detours and viewpoints, from volcanic terrain to expansive highland views.

This morning, head west to Grindavik, a small port on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Just a one-hour drive from Selfoss, this town is surrounded by wide lava fields and geothermal ground (cameras at the ready). Your splendid and more secluded base, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights, allows you to experience this landscape in peace, with your days built around immersion in the geothermal waters and long, unstructured pauses in between.

The focus here is the famous Blue Lagoon, a vast blue geothermal pool set in black volcanic rock. It’s always warm, no matter the season, meaning enchanting clouds of steam drift across the surface in a breathtaking natural display.

Once you’ve settled in, enjoy an included restorative massage and a floatation therapy session at the Blue Lagoon spa, where rest and relaxation are the order of the day.

Today is all about experiencing the Blue Lagoon and the surrounding area, where geothermal waters and raw volcanic terrain sit side by side.

The nearby Reykjanes Peninsula is made for exploring, with lava fields, jagged formations and cave systems shaped by centuries of volcanic activity.

This evening, a table is reserved for you at the Blue Lagoon restaurant, where contemporary design and inventive cooking come together in a setting that mirrors its surroundings: refined, elemental and quietly dramatic.

Fancy venturing further afield? We can also arrange a guided journey across the Reykjanes Peninsula, which reveals the wider volcanic landscape (and its incredible views) in more depth.

Wave goodbye to Iceland this morning as you drive back to Keflavik Airport and return your rental car at the airport. After one last moment of relaxation in the lounge, board your three-hour flight home, gazing out of the window for one last glimpse of steam rising from the peninsula.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

REYKJANES PENINSULA BY 4X4

After a little more nature? Explore the Reykjanes Peninsula, a geothermal and volcanic landscape shaped by ongoing seismic activity, by 4x4. Lava fields, steaming vents and sulphur-rich openings create a raw terrain that feels constantly in motion, with wide horizons underscoring the scale of Iceland’s geological forces. Accompanied by a specialist guide, gain insight into the region’s volcanic systems and snap postcard-perfect shots to capture the experience.

PRIVATE SPA AT THE BLUE LAGOON

Within the Blue Lagoon estate, retreat into a secluded suite with its own private lagoon. Designed for complete privacy and total relaxation, the space transforms the geothermal wonder into an intimate setting, with direct access to warm mineral waters and uninterrupted views of the surrounding lava fields. Everything is taken care of for you on arrival, from robes and towels to drinks and small treats – so the focus stays entirely on slowing down and switching off.
