Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Croatia – Hvar – Dubrovnik – Montenegro – Bay of Kotor
100% customisable for you
Your Adriatic escape begins today. Head to the airport, breeze through security and settle in for your flight to Split, arriving just under three hours later on Croatia’s coastline.
On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to the port, where a hydrofoil will take you across to the island of Hvar (around one hour’s journey). From the harbour, a short private transfer will brings you to your hotel, set in a quiet cove a few minutes from the main town.
After checking in, keep things simple. A swim off the jetty, a drink on the terrace, or a slow wander around the grounds is usually all that’s required after a travel day. Tuck into some local fish for dinner, enjoy something chilled and local to drink, then turn in for an early night.
You’ve got two days to explore Hvar, and it doesn’t demand a packed schedule. Start with the basics today – sea, sun, and a good breakfast – then head out when it suits you.
Hvar’s appeal lies in its contrast. Inland, there are quiet roads lined with olive groves, vineyards and stone villages, while along the coast, you’ll find hidden coves and irresistibly clear waters. If you’re feeling active, hire bikes or a car to explore further afield. If not, staying close to the water works just as well.
Today, head out on a private sailing trip around the pretty Pakleni Islands. These small, pine-covered islets sit just off the coast of Hvar and are best explored by boat. Expect sheltered bays, clear swimming spots and time to stop wherever the water looks good. No fixed agenda, just a captain who knows where to go.
This morning, leave Hvar behind and return to the mainland by hydrofoil, continuing on to Dubrovnik (the journey takes around three-and-a-half hours).
On arrival, a private transfer takes you up into the hills above the Old Town, where your hotel sits with a clear view over the rooftops and out to sea. Once a noble residence, it’s now a small, design-led hotel that manages to feel both historic and comfortable.
The afternoon is free to spend how you like. You might head down into the city for a first look, or stay put and make the most of the pool and terrace at your hotel.
After breakfast, head into Dubrovnik’s Old Town for a private guided walk. Within the city walls, everything is within easy reach – monasteries, palaces, churches and narrow streets that have changed very little over time.
Your guide will talk you through the city’s past, from its days as the Republic of Ragusa to more recent history. You may also spot a few filming locations along the way – Dubrovnik famously stood in for King’s Landing in Game of Thrones, and it’s not hard to see why.
After the tour, take your time. Walk the city walls, stop for a drink along the Stradun (the main pedestrian street), or find one of the quieter swimming spots just outside the gates. By early evening, things settle down, making it a good time to explore again or head out for dinner (our Concierge can help you find some of the best local spots).
Today, you’ll cross into Montenegro via private transfer as you travel south towards the Bay of Kotor. The drive follows the coastline before winding inland, with the scenery becoming more dramatic as you approach the bay.
At the water’s edge, swap car for boat for the final stretch, arriving at your hotel set on its own small island. You’ll stay two nights in a 19th-century fortress (also a UNESCO World Heritage site), which has been carefully restored into a low-key but high-spec retreat.
Spend the rest of the day settling in. Swim, explore the grounds, or find a quiet spot to sit and take in the surroundings. With a spa, three restaurants and even a private beach, there’s plenty of opportunity to relax and settle into island life.
After a hearty breakfast and refreshing morning swim, it’s time to explore. The day is yours to do as you please.
You could take a boat out to nearby towns like Perast or Kotor, both known for their Venetian architecture and slower pace. Kotor’s Old Town is particularly worth a wander, with its narrow lanes and fortress walls climbing high into the hills above. Or, head to Cetinje, the country's former historic capital, and Lovcen National Park for a stroll and epic viewpoints.
If you’d rather stay closer to base, there’s plenty to do without going far. Swim off the island, book a treatment at the spa, or dine on the outdoor terrace alongside ocean views.
Sadly, your Adriatic adventure comes to an end today. After a final breakfast out in the sun, take the boat back to the mainland and transfer to the airport for your three-hour return flight. Expect to leave with a phone full of sea views, a new appreciation for slow travel, and a quiet plan to come back.
