Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Canada – Montreal – Saint-Paulin – Baie-Saint-Paul – Quebec – Sutton
100% customisable for you
Today marks the start of your Quebec adventure. Head to the airport, whizz through security and settle in for the seven-and-a-half-hour flight across the Atlantic. On arrival, a private driver will meet you and take you to your hotel, conveniently located in Old Montreal.
Once you’ve checked in, take it easy. A short wander, a casual dinner, maybe a nightcap in the hotel bar – or call it an early night and save your energy for the real exploring to begin tomorrow.
Ease into the trip with a couple of days in Montreal. It’s the kind of city that’s best explored without too much of a plan – part historic, part creative, and always somewhere good to eat just around the corner.
Start in Old Montreal, where cobbled streets lead you past landmarks like the Notre-Dame Basilica and the waterfront, before branching out to other neighbourhoods like Mile End and hotspots like Avenue Laurier, which boasts charming cafés and beautiful shops.
On one of the days, we’ve arranged for you to join a local guide on a tour through the Plateau district, known for its colourful murals and independent spirit. It’s a great way to get your bearings and pick up some tips on the best things to see and do in Montreal.
This morning, it’s time to pick up your rental car and hit the road. As you leave the city, the scenery shifts quickly – buildings give way to open countryside, then dense forest as you drive through La Mauricie National Park.
By the time you reach Saint-Paulin, a small town in the Mauricie region, things feel a world away from Montreal. Check into your base, a cosy inn set among the trees, then spend the rest of the day settling in, enjoying the spa and easing into your new surroundings – you’ll be here for a couple of nights.
Settle into a slower rhythm over the next couple of days. La Mauricie National Park is right on your doorstep, with lakes, forest trails and plenty of space to explore as you please. As you explore, keep your eyes peeled for the park’s wonderful wildlife, including lynx, black bears and wolves.
You might head out on foot, paddle across the water by canoe or kayak, or simply take things easy and enjoy the setting. Early mornings in the park are especially peaceful, with mist over the lakes and very little around but the sound of the forest waking up – the perfect time to enjoy a yoga session surrounded by nature or set off on a horse-riding trip through the trees.
Back at the inn, there’s time to unwind properly – perhaps with a visit to the spa or a long, unhurried dinner.
If you’re in the mood for something a little different, we can arrange a seaplane flight over the region, offering a completely different perspective on the lush landscape.
It’s back on the road today, heading towards the Charlevoix region. The drive follows the banks of the St. Lawrence River, and you’ll be treated to wide, scenic views along the way.
After passing Trois-Rivieres and Quebec City, arrive in Baie-Saint-Paul. This city has a slightly different feel – part rural town, part creative hub.
Once you’ve checked into your new hotel, take a wander through the city, discovering galleries, small shops and a handful of relaxed spots for dinner.
Spend today exploring Baie-Saint-Paul at your own pace. You might start with a slow morning in town, dipping into galleries or stopping for coffee, before heading out into the surrounding countryside. The village serves as a starting point for the Grands-Jardins and Hautes-Gorges National Parks, which are both home to lovely walking trails and wide-open views. Prefer to take it easy? Stay local and let the day unfold without much of a plan.
If you’re keen to get out on the water, there’s also the option to head out on a whale-watching trip further along the river.
Today, hop on a bike and head into the Hautes-Gorges. The route runs through a dramatic valley, hugging the serene Malbaie River, with steep rock faces rising on either side. There are plenty of places to stop along the way, whether for a quick break or a picnic with a view, and at the end of the route, stop to marvel at a beautiful waterfall.
Once you’re suitably shattered, head back to your hotel for a relaxing afternoon and tasty dinner.
A shorter drive today brings you to Quebec City, set around an hour away. If you’re in no rush, stop to snap some pictures at Montmorency Falls or take a detour via Ile d’Orleans on the way.
When you arrive in Quebec City, check into your hotel tucked within the old town. Once you’ve settled in, head out for a wander – our clued-up Concierge is on-hand for dinner recommendations – and enjoy your first evening in the city.
Founded in 1608, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America. Spend the morning exploring its historic streets and beautiful river views, stopping at cute local cafés for a coffee and croissant.
Later, join a private tour of the Saint-Louis Forts and Chateaux, hidden beneath the Dufferin Terrace. With your guide, uncover a different side of the city’s history as you explore the remains of the official residence of colonial French and British governors. History buffs, you’re in luck: as you wander through four forts and two castles, you’ll be treated to displays of hundreds of artefacts uncovered during archaeological excavations.
The rest of the day is yours for the taking. If you like, we can arrange a Nordic spa visit – perfect if you fancy a slower afternoon.
Head south today towards the Eastern Townships, where the landscape softens into rolling hills, farmland and vineyards. It’s an easy drive, so there’s no need to rush.
When you arrive in Sutton, settle into your new hotel, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights. Once you’ve checked in, take a short wander into town or enjoy a drink as you ease into the slower pace.
Over the next day, take things as they come. This is a place for simple pleasures – walking trails through woodland, quiet country roads for cycling or long lunches that stretch into the afternoon. There are vineyards and microbreweries nearby if you feel like exploring, or you can keep things local with a coffee stop and a gentle wander.
It’s a fitting way to round things off – unhurried, low-key and exactly what you need before heading home.
Sadly, your Eastern Canada road trip has come to an end. After one final hearty breakfast, drive back to Montreal Airport, return your rental car and relax in the lounge before boarding your flight home. The overnight flight will take around six-and-a-half hours, and you’ll arrive back on home soil the following morning.
