Route
FLY TO TURIN
Your journey in northern Italy begins with a two-hour flight to Turin. When you arrive, you’ll be met at the airport and whisked away by private transfer to your hotel for the next two nights. You’ll stay in one of Turin’s most prominent districts just moments from the centre, the perfect base for exploring Piedmont’s capital city. This evening, relax with a drink on the roof terrace with a panoramic view across the city.
EXPLORE TURIN WITH A PRIVATE GUIDE
Today is about getting to know Turin. With a private guide leading the way, wander through the narrow cobbled streets of Quadrilatero Romano, the old quarter where the Roman city once stood. You’ll then pay a visit to the Santuario della Consolata, a beautiful church built in several different architectural styles, before embarking on a tour of the Porta Palazzo market. This is the largest market in Europe, where around 800 merchants have manned colourful fruit and vegetables stalls in Piazza della Repubblica for over a century. Here, you can meet local producers, try some traditional delicacies and soak up the lively atmosphere. Spend the rest of the day in Turin at your leisure. Browse the impressive Egyptian Museum, take a stroll through Parco del Valentino or simply sample some bicherin – the luxurious local coffee-chocolate drink – in one of the city’s historic cafés. If you like, we can also arrange a private guided tour of the Palace of Venaria.
DRIVE FROM TORINO TO BENEVELLO
After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, pick up your rental car and drive to Benevello, a tiny town surrounded by hills and farmland. The journey should take around one-and-a-half hours. Your home for three nights is an elegant mansion in the heart of the Langhe with magnificent views of the Alps and Barolo vineyards. This is the ideal place to begin exploring this enchanting region that’s rich in flavours and traditions. When you arrive, relax in peaceful surroundings looking out across lush forest and hazelnut trees.
EXPERIENCE THE FLAVOURS AND BEAUTY OF BENEVELLO
On your fourth morning in Italy, hop in the car and head to Alba, around a 20-minute drive away. Meet your guide in the Piazza Duomo for a gourmet walking tour that will introduce you to the city’s history through the flavours of the Langhe region. This is your chance to try the famous Alba hazelnuts, delicious white truffles and a glass or two of Barolo, otherwise known as ‘wine of kings and king of wines.’ If you like, we can also arrange a truffle hunt with a private guide. Spend the rest of your time here enjoying this tranquil area at your own pace. If you’d like us to recommend some restaurants, just let us know.
HOME TIME
Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Benevello and head back to Turin for your return flight. Drop off your rental car at the airport before boarding your flight back to the UK.
A la carte
PRIVATE TRUFFLE HUNT
Embark on a walk in the woods in search of delicious black truffles led by an expert trifulau (the local word for truffle hunter) and their faithful dogs, tabui, whose sense of smell is the key to success.
GUIDED TOUR OF THE REGGIA IN VENARIA REALE
Meet your private guide a few miles north of Turin in Venaria Reale for a visit to the Palace of Venaria, one of the royal family of Savoy’s main residences. The construction of this UNESCO World Heritage site dates back to the 17th century, when it was commissioned by Duke Charles Emanuele II as a base for hunting expeditions. After falling into disuse, this masterpiece of Baroque architecture was used for military purposes for almost two centuries before being opened to the public in 2007.
