Surrounded by turquoise waters and blonde sands, Antigua is the quintessential island paradise. Small towns and fishing villages are filled with colourful wooden houses, palm trees mark the transition from the coast to the interior, and shaded verandas set the scene for elegant afternoon teas – a legacy of the island’s colonial past. With 365 beaches lining its shores, you’d need more than a short trip to see all Antigua has to offer – and that’s before you even scratch the surface of the island’s interior – but this ten-day getaway offers an idyllic insight into this Caribbean gem.

Your itinerary

You’ll stay on the west coast of Antigua, sheltered by a sparkling bay and with direct access to the Caribbean Sea. How you spend your days is entirely up to you – relax on the beach one day and jump in your hire car to explore the island’s interior the next. We will arrange for you to spend one day in the company of a private guide, who’ll show you the sights and introduce you to the local Nyabinghi (Rasta) community.

If a beach day is calling, head out with a mask and snorkel to search for stingrays, turtles and tropical fish; try your hand at paddle boarding; or simply laze on the sand and get stuck into your holiday read. For the more energetic days, head into the island’s interior for lush canopy hikes (our Concierge can recommend some great routes), keeping your eyes peeled for hummingbirds in the trees and lizards basking on rocks. Then, come evening, treat your tastebuds to local delicacies like fungee (corn porridge similar to polenta) and saltfish, or indulge in fresh lobster and cocktails on the beach.

To ensure your trip runs smoothly from start to finish, we’ll arrange private airport transfers and a hire car for you to explore the island at your own pace. Throughout your time in Antigua, you’ll have access to our local Concierge, who’ll be on hand to help out with all manner of requests, from booking a massage or a boat trip, to recommending the best hikes and restaurants.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

CLIMB MOUNT OBAMA

Mount Obama, also known as Boggy Peak, is the highest point in Antigua, rising to just over 1,300ft above sea level. Starting from an agricultural village, you’ll tackle its ascent in the company of a guide. There are different trails you can take, varying in difficulty and terrain, and your guide can advise which is best for you. Each trail is lined with coconut palms, mango trees, bamboo trees and other local plants, all of which you will learn about during the walk. The climb will take around three hours, and from the summit, there is a superb view of the west and north coasts of the island: the perfect reward for your efforts.

SNORKELLING WITH TURTLES

This half-day tour begins with a gentle walk, passing through rainforest, a pineapple plantation and a fishing village. When you reach the beach, don snorkelling gear, head into the water and drift over wrecks, tropical fish, stingrays and squid. The day ends with a short hike to a natural seawater pool surrounded by lush vegetation, the perfect place for a final cooling dip.
