HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
A riding safari though the bush > An early morning hot-air balloon flight over the savannah > The beaches of the Lamu archipelago.
The beauty of broad savannah scenery, outstanding wildlife viewing and the white sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean coast, all combined in one ‘bush and beach’ Big Short Break.
Original Travel has a wide selection of the best safari lodges and beach resorts in Kenya for you to choose from, of which these are just a few:
In northern Kenya, stay at Elsa's Kopje or Sabuk. Elsa’s is located in the Meru National Park - home to a more diverse range of species than any other park in Kenya. This is the place that was made famous by the lions of George and Joy Adamson and the film ‘Born Free’. Sabuk is a remote lodge on the edge of the Laikipia plateau, where activities here include guided camel trekking safaris.
In central Kenya, Lewa Downs is a private game reserve with the looming shape of Mount Kenya as an impressive backdrop. Guided walking, horse riding or camel safaris are some of the ways to see this scenically stunning part of Kenya and its abundance of wildlife. Lewa is home to endangered species such as Grevy's zebra and one of the country's largest populations of the rare black rhino.
In the Masai Mara in south-west Kenya, stay at Richard’s Camp or Little Governors, both of which are luxury tented camps. The Masai Mara has one of the densest concentrations of game anywhere on Earth, with sightings of big cats – lion, leopard and cheetah – all but guaranteed. The annual 2,000-mile migration of over a million wildebeest is one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles, and the Masai Mara is directly on the route of this epic wildlife exodus.
In southern Kenya, stay at Shompole on the edge of the Great Rift Valley. Shompole offers luxurious accommodation and a range of activities to explore the diverse landscapes of this region, including river trips and visits to see the flamingos of Lake Natron.
Kenya also has hundreds of miles of Indian Ocean coastline, none more spectacular than the Lamu archipelago. Choose from Shela Beach House, Peponi or Kizingo on Lamu itself, Manda Bay on the neighbouring island of Manda, or Kiwayu, on the island of the same name – the northernmost of the archipelago. All of these offer barefoot luxury, total relaxation and activities ranging from snorkelling, diving and big-game fishing to peaceful dhow trips and guided tours of historic Lamu Town – a World Heritage Site. Alternatively, Alfajiri Villas, located on the mainland not far from Mombasa, are perhaps the finest private houses on the Kenyan coast.
‘Bush & Beach makes an unbeatable combination. For full details on all the different lodges we offer in Kenya, please contact us on 020 7978 7333.
