The Okavango Delta is one of the world’s most extraordinary wilderness areas, where the Okavango River spills not into a lake or sea, but the Kalahari Desert, creating an extraordinary landscape, teeming with big game. Original Travel has selected a range of highly individual lodges for you to choose from. Reachable only by light aircraft, each lodge offers a spectacularly diverse safari experience within the particular environment in which they are located.

The camps accommodate only a small number of guests at any one time, ensuring an intimate and personal atmosphere. Each offers something slightly different in terms of wildlife, scenery and activities: some areas are renowned for their high concentration of predators; others offer a blend of desert aridity and floodplains. One or two camps offer extraordinary elephant safaris, where guests can explore the Okavango by riding or walking with these remarkable and intelligent creatures - a truly unique and memorable experience. Another camp offers horseback safaris - also a great way of seeing this unique landscape. Depending on the season, game viewing is also conducted by 4x4 vehicles and guided walks, while during the annual floods, the narrow waterways of the delta are best explored by traditional dugout canoes (known as mokoros), while experienced guides point out the abundant wildlife, from fish eagles circling above to buffalo drinking at the water’s edge. The water acts as a magnet for wildlife, making the delta one of the most bio-diverse regions in Africa and guaranteeing a first-class wildlife-viewing experience.

Each of the camps offers a very high standard of accommodation, with tented rooms built on raised wooden decks being the norm. Most camps also have swimming pools and serve excellent food which can be enjoyed in the open-air under the stars.
