HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Jordan's carved rock city of Petra > Bedouin life in Wadi Rum > Burial place of Moses > Float in the Dead Sea, Jordan > Sanctuary spa
Jordan boasts some of the world’s finest ancient cities and natural wonders and is a fascinating holiday destination.
Jordan's hidden city of Petra, intricately carved into the sandstone some 2000 years ago, is one of the world’s most impressive archaeological sites. Nearby, the sheer walls of Wadi Rum rise from the desert floor, where Bedouin tribes have lived for centuries.
Petra was carved from pink sandstone cliffs by the Nabataeans some two millennia ago, and left undisturbed until its rediscovery in 1812. The entrance to the famous city - unmissable on any Jordan holiday - is a narrow high-walled gully, which widens to reveal the spectacular Treasury building. From here, explore Petra’s unfolding secrets.
Explore the King’s Highway with a knowledgeable holiday guide, and take in a number of historic sites including Mount Nebo, believed to be the last resting place of Moses. From here, look down across the Dead Sea from Jordan towards Jerusalem, where the golden Dome of the Rock glistens in the distance.
Many of the scenes in David Lean’s epic Lawrence of Arabia were filmed in the Jordanian desert surrounding Wadi Rum. Join a Bedouin guide on a 4x4 or camel safari, taking in ancient rock carvings and exploring the sheer sandstone cliffs.
Along with the plentiful cultural highlights, on your Jordan holiday, you'll want to relax beneath the wind-sculpted mountains that surround the Bedouin camp. Lie back by the blazing fire, the air fragrant with apple tobacco from smoking hookahs, and enjoy Jordan's enormous night skies and total silence.
The lowest point on Earth lies at 1,200 feet below sea level, where the Jordan River empties into the Dead Sea.
Experience the peculiar sensation of floating on the surface of the Dead Sea before indulging in a variety of treatments at the spa - you are on holiday, after all! With over 50 different treatments, the Sanctuary Zara Spa provides some of the most unique and holistic spa experiences available – a revitalising boost before the return journey home from Jordan.
In Amman, stay at the Four Seasons, the capital's most luxurious hotel, with first-class facilities including two swimming pools, a spa and several restaurants. At Petra, stay at the Movenpick Resort, ideally located right next to the entrance of the National Park that contains the ancient city.
