Oman remains one of the least discovered countries in the Middle East, despite some of the finest medieval forts in Arabia, and stunning landscapes that are ripe for exploration.

The tailor-made guided desert safaris take in the very best scenery that Oman has to offer, including the famous fort at Nakhl, spectacularly perched on a rocky prominence in the foothills of the Western Hajars.

The Wahiba Sands region in Oman provides an opportunity to put 4x4 driving skills to the ultimate test, taking on dunes, some with slopes at an angle of over 45 degrees.

Exploration of some of the beautiful wadis is the absolute highlight of any oman holiday, as there’s almost certain to be no-one else there, and it is possible to swim in crystal clear pools to wash off the dust of a trek through the dense vegetation that fills these deep watercourses through the desert.

This desert safari in Oman lasts a few days, with nights spent either camping out in comfort under the stars, or in small hotels. The circular route eventually comes back to the coast, and along largely empty beaches where, at a certain time of year, turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs. Here it’s possible to spend your holiday relaxing on the wide, shaded deck of a dhow, while dolphins swim alongside, and stop in secluded coves to snorkel, dive or have lunch.

The capital of Oman, Muscat, boasts two luxury hotels, in the Al Bustan and the Chedi, both of which are ideal holiday destinations before or after a 4x4 adventure in the vast and unspoiled interior.

The Al Bustan has a stunning location on its own private bay just a short distance from Muscat, and offers all the facilities you would expect of a five-star hotel. The smaller Chedi has a beachfront location on the other side of Muscat, offering a peaceful, stylish ambience and a first-class restaurant.
