Megeve's medieval centre rates as one of the prettiest in the Alps, with the original cobbled streets at the heart of the town surrounded by elegant streets built as part of a very deliberate strategy in the 1920s to make Megeve a rival for Switzerland's St Moritz. That such a luxurious resort lies just an hour and ten minutes from Geneva Airport all adds to the popularity of the place, especially as somewhere for a weekend ski break. There are three separate ski areas, two of which are linked by cable car, and including some really lovely runs through the trees back down to town. It would be remiss
of us not to mention the resort's low altitude, which can sometimes mean questionable snow conditions, but when the skiing is good it's lovely (and there are plenty of snow cannons).
