Alpasion Lodge is a luxurious lodge an hour and a half from the city of Mendoza in Uco Valley, the heart of Argentina’s premier wine region.
The adobe style lodge has just six bedrooms themed after the elements, from earth to air, and each with a private terrace and en suite bathroom. The sixth, Fire, is a fun children's room with bunk beds and an adjoining playroom for any families staying at the lodge, but given that wine tasting and vineyard visits are the main event here, the five adult rooms will likely appeal more.
With wine in mind, the facilities include an extensive wine cellar where guests can sample classic local vintages, plus a cosy living room (which can double as a film screening room) and library with log fire. In summer, guests also have the run of the infinity pool, the Jacuzzi and the gardens, and an outdoor fire burns at night on the roof terrace, which offers wonderful panoramas of the Andes. Meals are served in the elegant dining room, with the emphasis on Argentinian specialities; beef playing a big part, naturally, accompanied by the uncannily complimentary local wines.
Why we love it
Guests can get a wonderful understanding of the region's wines without even leaving the 'compound' at a wine tasting in the well-stocked wine cellar.
