Life is in the detail

There’s a reason there’s always a queue outside Fergburger in Queenstown – these are genuinely the best burgers you will ever eat, and have to be devoured (in large quantity) to be believed.

My travels

Travel Things I Want To Do Before I Die

  • Pick tea leaves in Sri Lanka's hill country.
  • Spot orangutans in the jungles of Borneo.
  • Do a road trip across Canada in the middle of summer.
  • Watch hot air balloons fly over Bagan in Myanmar.
  • Explore the glaciers of Patagonia.

Best Moments

  • Looking out at the view of The Andes after reaching the top of a huge summit on The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu.
  • Skydiving over Lake Taupo in New Zealand on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
  • Staying in a tiny Zambian village for a weekend, playing with children who had never seen a white girl before and learning how to sing (badly!) in church.
  • Sipping lots of red wine in the beautiful Margaret River wineries after being reunited with my Australian best friend.
  • Mountain biking down Death Road in Bolivia having not ridden a bike since I was 12.

Toughest Travel Moment

  • Trying to get from Lusaka to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia we booked the wrong bus, ended up in the middle of nowhere and had to barter with a local mini bus driver to take us the rest of the way. During the next eight hours the mini bus broke down ten times, we picked up several chickens and discovered a new found love(!) for distorted Christian FM.

Weirdest Travel Moment

  • Only finding out it was Songkran (Thai New Year) when we had a bucket of water thrown over us as we ate dinner in Hua Hin - we quickly joined in the fun and went back to our hotel drenched!

Cambodia like a Local

The phrase 'like a local' is thrown around a lot in travel these days, and while it's a great concept, we tend to find it often comes without much backing from an actual local expert. Without blowing our own trumpet too much, this is where we'd like to think we differ.

Meet the Locals - our Specialist Guides in Australia

When it comes to friendly locals, Australian's are well known for being some of the friendliest out there. People do actually say g'day and you won't be hard pushed to find a gang of surfers barbequing at the beach. Plus, with a population of 24 million people, there are plenty of mates to make.

A Street Food Tour of the World

Once the unsavoury dining choice of the broke backpacker or hippe local-wannabe, street food has come a long way in recent years. With several street food stalls around the world now being recognised with Michelin stars the concept of eating out of a paper carton on the side of the road has…

Hollywood’s Hottest Holiday Destinations

Quite literally picture perfect, the settings of our favourite Hollywood blockbusters might often seem too beautiful to be true. But rest assured, in a world of CGI and Photoshop, there are still some locations that are film-worthy all on their own. To celebrate this week's Oscar week in Los…
