Life is in the detail

Make sure to get a window seat when you fly into the Maldives. I thought all of the images you see of the Maldives were edited… turns out they aren’t.

Travel Things I Want To Do Before I Die

  • Climb a mountain, Everest is a bit extreme for my little legs, so let's go with Kilimanjaro
  • Go on an safari in Africa
  • Dive in Indonesia, it is meant to be the best diving spot in the world/learn to dive
  • Snorkel with a whale shark in Mexico
  • Road trip through California

Best Moments

  • Skydiving in New Zealand - unbelievable!
  • Stargazing at Lake Wanaka, the Milky Way was so clear and there was zero light pollution
  • Seeing Halong Bay
  • My favourite place: watching the sun go down over the plains of Mara North in the Masai Mara (mutually.scarring.stomachs in the What3Words world)

Toughest Travel Moment

  • Long tail boat from Bali to the Gili Islands, via Lombok with food poisoning… not recommended

Weirdest Travel Moment

  • Taking a donkey-drawn sleigh on wheels from Gili Trawangan port to my hotel, complete with disco ball, flashing lights and blaring music.

Borneo

Borneo's Best Bits

Borneo is a wild island, home to the infamous Headhunter Tribe and an ancient dense rainforest full of wildlife including the beautiful orang-utans and even the rarely spotted Clouded Leopard. Many people want to head here to explore this remote destination where the last headhunting took…

Six Senses Laamu – A perfect Day In Paradise

I was lucky enough to spend a week at the fabulous Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives last year, and loved it so much I am going back this year! It really is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The island itself is stunning; the villas are, quite frankly, jaw-dropping, the food…

Richard's Camp, Kenya

I have been fortunate enough to travel to many far-flung parts of the globe but I've never been on safari or travelled to East Africa. In December, however, I was lucky enough to visit Kenya where I headed to Nairobi briefly, before heading down to the Masai Mara to stay at Richard's River…

Part 2: Cambodia and the Lost World

In case you missed my last blog on Cambodia, I basically poured my heart out about this utterly enchanting country. Perhaps the most profound observation I have, though, is that Cambodians remain resolutely cheerful and strong in the face of such a harrowing history. In this article I'm…

Head Over Heels for Cambodia: Part 1

Having been lucky enough to travel the world extensively and develop a strong sense of wanderlust, Asia is where my passion really lies. Which is why, with excitement, I am now able to tell you about a country I have not had the chance to visit... until now - Cambodia.

New Zealand: The Ultimate Holiday Destination?

Bold statement, I know (and I may be slightly biased, being Original Travel's resident New Zealand expert and all), but New Zealand is the ultimate luxury holiday destination. Firstly, it's home to scenery that truly has to be seen to be believed. Yes, the photos look incredible but even…

Australia Holidays: From Kangaroo Island to the Great Barrier Reef

A holiday in Australia will never be a quick trip for us Brits, with its 24 hour journey time, but it is certainly a country I would recommend pencilling in on your bucket list. I have just returned from a two week trip to this amazing country and, although I would recommend spending a…

A Jaunt Around Java

My visits to Bali, Lombok and Sumatra had really brought home to me just how different and unique all of the Indonesian islands are. So while heading to Java, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect.

Sumatra - A Walk On The Wild Side

Sumatra is one of the largest islands in Indonesia, it's 3 times the size of the UK, and unlike its neighbouring islands of Bali and Java, sees hardly any western visitors. It is also one of the most biodiverse areas on earth, known for its extraordinarily rich flora, fauna and wildlife. I…

Family Wildlife Holidays

Kids love different types of animals, here in the UK we have to go to the zoo to get up close to the weird and wonderful species around the world (don't get me wrong, a zoo always goes down very well) but what's better than choosing a destination for your family holiday where your kids can…

The Conrad Algarve: A Hotel Review

We all know that during the summer months the Algarve is pretty hot, but things just got hotter in Quinta Do Lago.

80 Senses: #56 - The Great Walks

Great country, great walks.

80 Senses: #35 - Thai massage, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

Hands - and feet - on. Only very few countries are synonymous with massages. The Swedes with their athletic version (birch twig thrashing optional); the Indonesians (Balinese, actually) with their use of pressure points; the Indians with their hot, oily ayurvedics, and the Thais with their…
