Wild Coast Tented Lodge is an all new canvas lodge situated on a deserted beach at the edge of Yala National Park.
All 28 of the man-made vaulted cocoon tents blend seamlessly into the surroundings thanks to the work of Dutch, English and Sri Lankan designers. Natural materials and bamboo have been used inside the fully furnished tents to create an authentic safari style, yet comfort hasn't been compromised (hello free standing bathtubs and king sized beds). For families, tents with adjoining twin-bedded children's tents are available and for the water babies, some even come with private plunge pools.
When it comes to dining, the restaurant commands magnificent ocean views and the menu changes daily to offer a refreshing taste of Sri Lankan cuisine. When out on safari the chef prepares a 'Picnic Tea' to keep you fuelled throughout the day.
Facilities include a bamboo clad bar, a library that doubles as an education centre and a sanctuary spa featuring natural treatments developed in-house.
The tents are dotted around five watering holes and, as such, attract an abundance of birdlife and amphibians. Guests can enjoy observing the animals from the tents outdoor viewing decks or head to the education centre to brush up on the wildlife. After, join your guide for a safari in Yala National Park, home to the best leopard spotting on the planet.
The lodge's pods are in the shape of a leopard paw in honour of the local beasty. How cool, how clever.
