Sitting in the heart of bustling Colombo, the Uga Residence is an oasis of calm nestled between leafy Park Street and the Buddhist shrine of Gangarama. The Residence was built in the 19th century by Sheikh Salehboy Moosajee, a wealthy barrister, and throughout the years, the Residence has seen Indian Maharaja’s, European nobility, and British governors grace its halls.
In its modern day incarnation, the Residence, houses just 11 luxurious suites, amid leafy gardens and private courtyards - in essence, the perfect escape from the city. The luxurious Park Suites hark back to the colonial period with their polished wooden floors, sumptuous earthen and gold tones, and rich brocade fabrics. Every suite features a bedroom, living room and en suite bathroom, along with a private outdoor courtyard. Though classic in style, Suites also offer all modern amenities you'd expect to find in a luxury boutique hotel. The Palatial Residence Suite also boasts a whirlpool bathtub.
RARE at the Residence is a poolside restaurant serving a continental menu with an emphasis on Sri Lankan ingredients, matched with fine wines from the well-stocked cellar, which can be enjoyed indoors, or al fresco on balmy evenings. The neighbouring Residence Bar is the perfect spot for a pre of post dinner tipple, with a selection of premium whiskies, and cocktails expertly mixed by the resident barman. And for those that simply cannot remove themselves from the peace and privacy of their private courtyard, in-suite dining is available 24 hours a day, whether that be for breakfast in bed, or a midnight snack.
The outdoor swimming pool provides ample space to relax for the handful of guests, or choose to retreat to the library as the temperature drops. Away from the Residence, the main attraction is quite clear - the chaotic, bustling atmospheric streets of Colombo. Guests can lose themselves in the old quarter, stumbling across local restaurants and cafes, galleries and museums, and charming local shops.
The Residence is a little slice of Eden amid the commotion of Colombo, with luxurious suites, delicious in-suite dining and polished service.
