Itinerary Highlights

  • Paro - 1 day
Arriving into Bhutan, it is just a short journey to the serene Uma Paro, where you can settle in and refresh after your long journey. Make your first foray into the Himalayan Kingdom this afternoon, sightseeing in Paro town, and visiting local temples.
  • Punakha - 3 days
The second location in this perfect pairing is Punakha, for a stay at the Uma Punakha. You'll explore the city of Thimphu on route, before snaking up the Dochu mountain pass, where views of over 100 chortens (Buddhist shrines), forests of colourful, fluttering prayer flags and distant Himalayan peaks can be enjoyed. Spend full days exploring the lush Punakha valley, trekking to temples, through farmland, past local schools and the stunning Punakha Dzong - the winter hom of Je Khenpo, the head abbot of Bhutan. For more active guests, this is the perfect location to take to the water with a white water rafting trip.
  • Paro - 3 days
Retracing your steps to the Uma Paro, explore more of the beautiful temples and dzongs with your private guide, relax with spoiling COMO spa treatments, and even try your hand at archery. The highlight of the trip is sure to be your visit to the breath-taking Tigers Nest monastery, which clings vertiginously to a hillside. According to legend, this cliffside is where Guru Rinpoche landed on the back of a flying tigress, bringing Buddhism to Bhutan from Tibet. It's a two hour trek, passing a waterfall and ending among beautiful murals at the monastery's main entrance.
