Bordering one of the largest lagoons in Mauritius, the Four Seasons occupies its own stretch of coastline and extends across wooden bridges to an 11-acre private island, Ile aux Chats.
All the Garden Residence Villas are on the mainland, with the Garden and Mangrove Pool Villas divided between the mainland and the island. The villas are set in lush lagoon, garden and mangrove surroundings, and each has outdoor living space with an al fresco shower, verandah, plunge pool and private plant-filled garden.
The resort's facilities, as one would expect, are superb. Golf lovers have the use of 18 holes of Ernie Els-designed championship course, and the hotel itself has two tennis courts, four swimming pools, three sand beaches, an extensive over-water spa, and a boathouse and PADI certified diving centre. The vast majority of activities, from the kids club to golf, sailing and tennis, are all complimentary to guests.
After all that activity, head for one of four restaurants, ranging from French to Italian and Asian, or to the lounge and pool bars.
Families are extremely well catered for, whatever the age of the children. The Four Seasons at Anahita Kids Club has a complimentary "Kids for all Seasons" programme of fun for guests aged between 4 and 12. The Club has its own swimming and paddling pool, amphitheatre, bakery, film-viewing area, playground and playroom, all supervised by nannies and kids' club staff. Beyond the Club, experiences include line-fishing, crab-hunting, mini-tennis and golf, local crafts and tropical treasure hunts.
Teenage siblings will be equally delighted with their lot; Karokan has been specifically designed for those aged over 13, and offers computers, X-box, Wii, a pool table, table tennis and table football, and even its own disco with a DJ balcony.
Our favourite thing about Four Seasons is the service, and it doesn't disappoint here; staff are unobtrusive, laid-back, charming and friendly.
