The third addition to the burgeoning Mama Shelter brand is in downtown Istanbul and every bit as cool and as its cousin and cousine in France.
Occupying the top three floors of a new department store in Beyoglu, Mama Shelter Istanbul has 81 rooms in total. As with the French versions, the Istanbul edition is designed by interiors guru Philippe Starck with the emphasis on predominantly white rooms brightened up with splashes of colour, be they bright red chaise longues or superhero masks on the lampshades.
The restaurant is equally funky with musical instruments on the wall and graffiti on the blackboard - which just happens to be on the ceiling. 3* Michelin man Alain Senderens has created an excellent Franco-Turkish menu while pizzas are also available either in the restaurant or the bar where local DJs get the party started most evenings.
Why we love it
Come the summer months, the rooftop terrace is the place to be, expertly mixed cocktail in hand and looking out across the roof- and mosque-tops of one of the world's finest cities.
