A City Break in St Petersburg

Itinerary Highlights

  • Arriving in St Petersburg, be met at the airport and whisked to the Hotel Astoria for a three night stay in the heart of the city. Spend the rest of the arrival day relaxing, or head out to explore from your base on St Isaacs Square before dinner in one of the city's fine dining restaurants, recommended and reserved by our team.
  • Kick off the first full day with a trip to the Hermitage Museum with a private guide. The Hermitage Museum collection includes more than 3 million items, of which just a fraction are on permanent display. Having said that, this 'fraction' still spans over 120 rooms, and so an expert guide is a necessity to make the most of the museum. Whether your interest is piqued by Egyptian Antiquities, Medieval Armour, or 11th - 19th Century Russian Art, there's a collection that fits. After a good few hours of museum exploration, your guide will take you to a traditional Russian Bathhouse, or Banya, where your native Russian guide is a necessity for unravelling bathhouse etiquette…
  • Day two leaves the city behind to explore Pushkin, or Tsarkoe Selo, the Tsar's summer residence. The Catherine Palace is the jewel in the town's (already very glittering) crown and is hugely sumptuous with its famous Amber Room and gilted ballroom. Having developed a penchant for the ostentatious, this afternoon is the perfect time to visit the Faberge museum, home to the largest collection of Faberge work in the world, including nine of the eleven Imperial Easter Eggs.
  • A final morning in the city allows enough time to explore some of the architectural highlights, from the Peter and Paul Fortress (the cathedral here is the burial place of many Russian Tsars), home to the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, with its colourful and iconic onion shaped domes, and the incredible St Isaac's Cathedral. Ascend to the top of the dome for stunning views of the city, before you depart.
