Exploring Transylvania

Itinerary Highlights

  • Bucharest - 2 Days
Starting out in the country's capital, Bucharest, explore the mammoth Palace of Parliament - the second largest and most expensive civil administration building in the world. Up and coming nightlife in the Lipscani District can also be found for those after a livelier first evening.

  • Transylvania - 3 Days
Heading north to Transylvania, the infamous Bran Castle which legend has it (incorrectly we might add) housed Count Dracula, is a stunning piece of architecture. Well worth a visit, and a three mile cross country walk from the Inn on Balaban, this rural and unspoilt area of Transylvania feels like you've jetted back to medieval times.

  • Zalanpatak - 3 Days
Further north, adventure aplenty, embark on a scenic walk and lookout for wild bears and boars who gently roam amidst the meadows of flowers that blossom in the summer months. A stay at the guesthouse of Prince Charles is a charming retreat for those wanting to soak in the endless surrounding ambience of nature at its most peaceful.

  • Miklosvar - 3 Days
Almost entirely inhabited by ethnic-Hungarian Szecklers, the village of Miklosvar is just a few miles from Zalanpatak, yet you may well not hear a word of Romanian while visiting. Riding, bear spotting and meeting local craftsmen can tempt the culture vultures and nature lovers in equal measure. Venturing to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Viscri in the preserved medieval town of Sighisoara allows visitors the chance to see some of the fortified ancient site that will make our fast paced world seem a million miles away.

A rough idea of price

A similar itinerary would cost in the region of £1,650 per person, which includes all flights, hotels transfers, and organised trips.

A note about prices

The guide prices shown are designed to provide you with a broad indication of how much to budget for your trip. Prices are generally for private arrangements using economy flights based on two people travelling together and sharing a room. There are a number of factors which will influence the price; these include the standard of accommodation, the season, the class of flights, the airline used and the level of private guiding versus shared excursions.
