Winelands of Portugal

What we came up with

For those who like a tipple, Portugal offers some fine wine regions to explore. While the Douro Valley is renowned for its port, the regions wines are definitely underrated. Combine this with the beautiful Alentejo region, a haven of boutique hotels amid cork forests, where walking, eating and drinking are the order of the day.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Porto - 2 Days
Porto is Portugal's second city, and the home of cobbled streets that lead to the waterfront port warehouses. Stay at boutique hotel The Yeatman, with its unique decanter shaped pool (there's a theme here...), and spend days enjoying wine tasting and port warehouse tours.

  • Douro Valley - 2 Days
Wine and cheese tasting, golf, and private viewings to local quintas are what makes the Douro Valley so special. The Six Senses Hotel is a tranquil spot to be tempted by a tipple, delicious food, and a world-class spa. For a unique dining experience, the Six Senses can arrange a meal in a surprise location during your stay.

  • Alentejo - 1 Day
There is a very real concern that the wine of the Alentejo might just be a temptation too far. L'And Hotel is a wine resort and has a wine club, and a Michelin-starred restaurant. This is definately a spot to indulge, and so it's lucky that the region is prime walking territory, to work off the previous evenings delicious dinner, and clear a wine-hazed mind.
  • Albernoa - 2 Days
A final few nights are to be spent in Malhadinha Nova; a quintessential Portuguese homestead situated on a 450 acre vineyard. Of course wine tours and tastings are on offer, but a complete host of other experiences can be enjoyed too. Cookery, paintballing, quad biking, canoeing, helicopter rides and yoga are just some of the top things to do in this rural retreat.

A rough idea of price

A similar itinerary would cost in the region of £2,195 per person, which includes all flights, hotels transfers, and organised trips.

A note about prices

The guide prices shown are designed to provide you with a broad indication of how much to budget for your trip. Prices are generally for private arrangements using economy flights based on two people travelling together and sharing a room. There are a number of factors which will influence the price; these include the standard of accommodation, the season, the class of flights, the airline used and the level of private guiding versus shared excursions.
