An authentic reindeer farm dating back to 1847, Torassiepi is a charming and low key place to appreciate the beauty of Finnish Lapland and the locals’ way of life.
There are eight cabins (including three with their own saunas) each able to take four or six guests, and a further eight twin rooms, all located in the lovely forests by Torassieppi Lake and none more than five minutes' walk from the main building. More adventurous guests can also spend a night wrapped up in snug arctic sleeping bags on reindeer skin covered beds in the new snow hotel igloo rooms, decorated with ice sculptures.
Torassiepi has a number of culinary options including a charming wooden restaurant serving Lappish delicacies such as reindeer, Arctic char, berries and mushrooms; a new ice restaurant and bar and two kotas (traditional conical Sami tent structures). Finally, Poripitti is another wooden restaurant catering for larger parties.
Activities on offer include visits to the old reindeer museum and the manor house, or reindeer or husky dog sledding safaris. Visiting the reindeer farm is a fascinating insight into life in Lapland, and snowmobiling is available from another hotel nearby.
