What we came up with

Two weeks combining one of Central America's unsung heroes, with our long-time favourite Costa Rica

Itinerary Highlights

  • Guacalito de La Isla - 3 Days
Nicaragua is fast becoming our new favourite destination in all of Central America, and heading to Mukul, or 'secret' in Mayan, might just be the perfect way to show it off. Although we wanted to keep this little gem of a boutique hotel to ourselves, it's just too good not to share. The Beach Club is the place for adventure and activity alongside the phenomenal Pacific Coast, with pools, kayaks, sea turtle programmes and nature walks all available to participate in, too.

  • Granada - 3 Days
One of Nicaragua's most appealing cities is Granada, with its rich Spanish architecture and stunning setting beneath the towering Mombacho Volcano, and on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Los Patios is designed to emulate this bustling Hispanic history, but with a few Scandinavian influences from the owners thrown in for good measure. It's all about exploring the local area, with treks up the volcano, and swimming in the lake for the active, to observing the skills of local potters for the arty.

  • Central Valley - 3 Days
A short flight to Costa Rica and into the depths the jungle for a stay at Xandari Resort and Spa, set high amidst tropical gardens on a 40 acre estate. Sitting at an altitude just shy of 4000ft, there's a constant mild temperature, meaning explorations into the wilderness as well as nature trails can be enjoyed in climate comfort. An even more adventurous stop off comes in the boat-only access of Playa Cativo, making it the exquisite beach/jungle location it has come to be. With the Piedras Blancas National Park on one side, and the Osa Peninsula on the other, whether its watersports or jungle treks that appeal, there's endless outdoor entertainment for everyone.

  • Nicoya Peninsula - 4 Days
Saving perhaps the best until last, is the short flight to the Nicoya Peninsula, and the secluded location of FlorBlanca. So named for the numerous little white flowers that surround the area, the hotel boasts an infinity pool right at its heart, and minimalist interiors. Any number of activities, from beaching, surfing, mountain biking and trekking can be arranged, along with a jungle horse riding trek, that explores Costa Rica's oldest protected wildlife area, the Cabo Blanco National Reserve.

A rough idea of price

A similar itinerary would cost in the region of £4,995 per person, which includes all flights, hotels transfers, and organised trips.

A note about prices

The guide prices shown are designed to provide you with a broad indication of how much to budget for your trip. Prices are generally for private arrangements using economy flights based on two people travelling together and sharing a room. There are a number of factors which will influence the price; these include the standard of accommodation, the season, the class of flights, the airline used and the level of private guiding versus shared excursions.
