What we came up with

A trip to savour the vibrant metropolis of Mexico City, the culture of Oaxaca and Chiapas and some relaxation on the Caribbean Coast offers one of the most culturally diverse experiences to be found in Mexico.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Mexico City - 2 days
In spite of its urban sprawl, Mexico City (a UNESCO World Heritage Site, no less) contains pockets of great beauty and historical interest. The world renowned National Museum of Anthropology is not to be missed, and art lovers can visit Frida Kahlo's house as well as the private collection of Dolores Olmedo. A stay in the trendy boutique hotel of Las Alcobas is the ideal location to get that 'home away from home' feel, while remaining in the city's heart. Mexico City boasts a vibrant street food scene, and foodies will rejoice with tacos al pastor, tamales and atole, tlacoyos, quesadillas and more!
  • Oaxaca - 3 days
South of the capital lies Oaxaca, the country's creative and indigenous heart, where many of Mexico's typical religions, foods and festivals originate from. Wandering the city's cobbled streets, encounter some of the best restaurants and street food stalls in Mexico, and for the more energetic - an escape into the surrounding countryside offers the opportunity to hike, bike, climb and horse ride. Casa Oaxaca is an 18th Century colonial house which has been painstakingly refurbished, and in which a little peace can be found amidst the bustle of Oaxaca.
  • San Cristóbal de las Casas - 3 days

The neighbouring state to Oaxaca is Chiapas, an area boasting the archaeological wonders of Toniná, Palenque, Yaxchilán and Bonampak as well as the natural wonders of the mighty Sumidero Canyon and Misol Ha Waterfalls. The place to stay while visiting is Hotel Bo; a design forward hotel just a short walk from the centre of charming San Cristobal de las Casas. The town warrants a few nights stay in order to really experience it's fascinating blend of colonial and indigenous cultures, and a highlight for more adventurous travellers is a boat ride through the mighty Sumidero Canyon.

  • Riviera Maya, Yucatán - 4 days

After all this adventure, a little bit of down time is undoubtedly necessary. Step forward Yucatán Peninsula, where white sandy beaches and the beautifully calm Caribbean sea awaits. Maroma Hotel & Spa is the ultimate place to be pampered, with a luxurious spa, private sandy beach, snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing and any other water based activities on your doorstep. If visiting between May and September a bucket list photo opportunity is on the cards, as giant marine turtles come ashore to nest.

A rough idea of price

A similar itinerary would cost in the region of £5,495 per person which includes all flights, hotels transfers and organised trips.
