Exploring the Yucatan Peninsula

What we came up with

The Yucatan Peninsula separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Caribbean Sea, and is home to jungles, Mayan ruins, golden coastlines and a plethora of relaxing retreats. This is undeniably a beach holiday with quite a few twists along the way.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Riviera Maya - 5 days
The golden sands of the Riviera Maya are lapped by gin clear seas, and with an ambience to satisfy the most zen of travellers. Though, if a lively vibe is more up your street fear not, Playa del Carmen is just 20 minutes away. Located on a 50-acre estate is Hotel Esencia; yoga, pilates, spa treatments and two pools means unwinding is easy, and all of this is just a few gentle paces from the lapping shoreline. Underwater a host of possibilities are also available, with scuba diving, snorkelling, wind surfing and sailing easily accessible.
  • Hacienda Temozon, near Merida - 3 days
Heading further inland to the Hacienda Temozon puts travellers within easy reach of some truly exquisite Mayan ruins. A typical colonial hacienda, the peaceful gardens and personal plunge pools have been carefully restored so as to allow a place for a little down time after days exploring the remarkable heritage of the region. Explore the Uxmal, Chichen Itza and Mayapan sites, as well as the Spanish Colonial city of Merida.
  • Chichen Itza - 1 day
Crack of dawn visits to the Mayan sites make the most of the truly wonderful glints of sunrise that fall upon the ruins. The Lodge at Chichen Itza is a stone's throw away from the site and is therefore the most convenient place to spring into action for an early morning tour. After such an early start, The Lodge provides swimming, serenity and relaxation after a morning of exploration.

A rough idea of price

A similar itinerary would cost in the region of £3,995 per person which included all flights, hotels transfers and organised trips.
