Rainforest, Ruins and Reefs of Belize

What we came up with

Discover Belize's lush tropical jungle, spotting a plethora of birds and (if you're lucky) catch a glimpse of jaguars or puma in one of Central America's most underrated countries. Explore rivers and waterfalls on horseback, trek along hidden trails and soak up the region's fascinating Mayan history, before sinking your toes into the sand, and diving along the second largest barrier reef in the world.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Miami - 1 day
Flights from the UK to Belize will route via Miami; rest flight weary heads at the trendy Setai, for a whistlestop stay in the heart of South Beach.
  • Orange Walk District - 3 Days
Begin your exploration of Belize with a sojourn at Chan Chich Lodge, a 14 room thatched eco-lodge built on the ruins of an unexcavated Mayan plaza. Sitting in the heart of a 130,000 acre nature reserve, spend days trekking along rainforest trails, learning about Mayan medicinal plants, and trying your hand at riding and canoeing - or brave an amazing night drive, in the hopes of spotting puma, jaguar or ocelot, as well as a plethora of birds. Downtime is well spent swaying in one of the thoughtfully placed hammocks with a book, and lingering by the pool.
  • Cayo District - 3 Days
Venture south to the Cayo District, home to the stunning Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve - a mecca for adventurous activities. Set amidst a tropical landscape of jungle, rivers, caves and waterfalls, Blancaneaux Lodge - owned by director Francis Ford Coppola - is the perfect rustic-luxe oasis. Blancaneaux has its own stables, and the early morning ride is well worth waking up for - or explore by mountain bike, before returning to soak in the riverside spa's hot pool or to enjoy a Thai massage. Gaze out at beautiful gardens and lush jungle from your hidden hideaway, dine alfresco under the stars, and end evenings drink in hand, at the jungle bar.
  • Ambergris Caye - 3 Days
For the definitive in barefoot bohemian chic, head to Matachica Resort and Spa on Ambergris Caye, one of the thousands of cayes off the coast of Belize. Brightly-coloured villas, bedecked in hanging fans, lanterns and vibrant Central American motifs, face the second-largest barrier reef in the world across white sands and gin-clear waters. Excursions to the reef are not to missed; snorkel past mesmerising marine life or dive the Great Blue Hole, one of the best dive sites in the world.

A rough idea of price
